It was this bit I was laughing at in particular " bang average the rest" now I'll give you inconsistent, something I've said myself many times along with him being a terrible whinger, but even when he's not on it I wouldn't call him 'bang average' because he'll always put a shift in. Also, now I will apologise if I'm wrong but aren't you always defending Benitez?

Anyone saying Patterson wouldn't be a gamble is wrong

But, if it's a gamble that pays off then it's either going to mean we have the best years of a great player or we get a decent wedge for moving him on, which we can then invest elsewhere

It's worth the gamble IMO

I want us to be ambitious when it comes to stuff like this. We've played it too safe in recent years

I just read Dominic King's article on this and it says Patterson is Benitez number 1 full back target. Who knows if that's totally correct, but it definitely looks like he is interested at the very least.

Maybe so, but dont rule out Rangers starting an auction that Everton cant or wont compete in. Also, we may still be looking to get Maitland-Niles in and looking to Arsenal to defecate or get off the pot, IMO.

He was like 19 and hadn't played in the qualification run. I'm guessing they wanted to stick with the lad who helped them get there.

That lad isn't good enough to hold down his own place in an ale house team in Caledonia.

And if they price us out then move on. Doesn't mean we shouldn't try to get someone if they are our main target.

Maitland Niles will cost an absolute fortune for someone who is clearly not in Arsenal's plans. I doubt they will loan him to us now if they wouldn't 4 months ago.

1 appearance at the Euros according to google. Don't remember if he started or came on though. He seems to be first choice now.
