Everton fit to burst into fourth spot - The Times

Well fourth is probably out of reach now as we needed to get three points from our visit to Molineux. Fifth is within our reach, however.

Still, a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.

Villa will have been really rocked on their heels by yesterday's result against Chelsea. They may take a few games to bounce back - if they can. They tend not to finish the season strongly (as we do not start it well...)

City are so unpredictable that they may do anything - implode, take fourth or just miss out.

Liverpool have deepseated problems, seems to me. Gerrard apologising for poor form. Torres feeling compelled to publicly commit his future to the club (can you imagine Lampard saying 'Despite everything, I'm gonna stick it out at Chelsea...?'). I'm positive we can overhaul them.

So fifth is in our hands....if we step up.

spurs an implode at any given time, plus if they have a cup final to look forward to then harry will look at the situation.

it may be more beneficial to go into the europa from the cup (as in the round they will enter at) than do cl qualifiers, slip on a banana, and end up in an earlier round of the europa than they would from the cup.
the way uefa set things up, it wouldbn't suprise me at all if they would need 3 rounds of quals in the c.l. from being 4th, and end up out of everything (a la celtic) or go straight into 1st round of europa from cup. their coefficient will be crap so it could well be the case, and if anyone would chuck a game it's wobbly. Wonder if they coukd get 4th and say they dont want the cl place ?

Personally, I don't think we're ready for 4th yet. I'd prefer to have a storming season next year and get into CL when we're at full strength...

no, I dont think we'd do anything in c.l. and the expectation level would be through the roof, people would also expect half a dozen 20mill players to be bought. The best we could hope for if it happened would be a favourable draw in the quals to get in the group for the wedge, but it would involve doing it with the players we have, otherwise it would cost us financially to be in there. you have to keep getting in, keep doing well and not sell the family silver along the way, otherwise c.l. can be the death of you. the example being the r/s having to qual or face ruin.

The CL could be seen as a bit of a poisoned chalice in some respects. Obviously we want to be in it but as some of you have pointed out, there are pitfalls. limited finances generally mean limited squad depth. The CL is also the biggest shop window around so it does increase the possibility (probability) of your best players being picked off, especially if they perform well at that level.
Over the last decade or so, La Liga has been far more varied than the Prem with regards to top 4 finishes with the likes of Real Sociedad, Celta Vigo (both now in the second division ie. Championship) and Deportivo La Coruña all falling away after being stretched by the CL. The likes of Sevilla have lost the likes of Jose Antonio Reyes, Sergio Ramos and Dani Alves to bigger /richer clubs and . They have done well to stay the pace due to agood youth system and a great scouting system but are showing signs of being on the wane. Valencia are in deep [Poor language removed] financially speaking and although they do seem to have third spot tied down, if/when they lose any of their big guns in the summer, the future will look bleak.
Olympic Lyon are another example, losing Essien, Diarra, Malouda and Benzema. I know they're in the qf of the CL with a reasonable draw but they're out of the CL places in France. All that after 7 ligue 1 titles on the run.

Ffs I'm getting bored writing now which generally means people will be getting bored reading, but you know what I mean. Cheers

You reckon :D

Sky Sports | Football News | Premier League | Liverpool | Rafael makes budget claim

couldn't read any further when i got to this...

But the Spanish tactician

he speaks of not qualifying.....penny dropping.

well thay cant be thinking of getting rid either then cos if they sack him then they wont have a brass razzoo.
also selling the ladyboy would be the only way to raise a transfer budget, they reckon on talksport though that rbs are expecting 110mill or something off them, or they will have defaulted.

KRIOC(y)

In the papers today Torres stated they can get 4th by winning their last six games and thinks Spurs and City will fail die to their fixtures.

So fingers crossed they come unstuck.
