Everton first team players who we never should have sold or got rid of?

I missed a great player out the unfair ban on Tony Kay!
Nowadays he would have been fined and a small ban if that
He was banned for life - Nobby Styles would have never seen an England shirt!
Betting against your own team gets you a fine and a small ban, if that, nowadays? Don't think so.

Kay's lifetime ban was extremely harsh, probably illegal, and a tragedy for him and us - but get caught betting on your own team to lose and there's basically nothing to say, you're at the mercy of the judge.

Walter Smith seemed good at snuffing out promising Everton careers - Michael Ball, Don H, Gavin McCann, Jeffers, Barmby, Dunne etc. John 'Ted' Collins never even got started.
Not talking about players the calibre of Alan Ball or Bobby Collins here, but decent prem standard who can wear the jersey and you can shape into a team. Just seemed a horrendous man manager with a revolving door of transfers.
