Phyllis Stein
Player Valuation: £8m
There was a time we were considered relegation certs. Players jumping ship, snide accusations, the media and certain enemies salivating at our proposed certain relegation.
Moyes played a 4-1-4-1, Carsley sweeping up in front of a back four, and Cahill shoving up to take advantage of the room Bent made.
Since that point a few sides have used a sweeper-destroyer. Makalele, Fletcher, Mascherano, Essien, Eboue, and a few others not so well known like Lucas, Palacios, Cattermole and other such wastrels.
Fellaini showed for Liege he was a different type of player than had been witnessed before, and Moyes got him in, amazing in the air (Gary Neville saying "I have never seen a player chest and head so many balls in my life") and supreme on the deck, he ran at everyone but Vidic (to begin with) and exposed the flanks and the centre before he put moves on the Serb.
When he is in the groove, he is untouchable in the air because he is a foot taller than almost all other midfielders, and is so capable and so confident on the deck that ''on the deck destroyers'' like Parker and a few others cant get close enough to destroy because the threat of an aerial ball makes them hang back.
It could be luck, it could be fate, but the evolution of the game in terms of a player in a position that is undefendable has been and is the Excalibur in our ranks.
His and Phillip (Carsley) Neville's lead in the opening 25 minutes set the example for the rest and no one backed down. So proud, so happy, and so pleased that we have clearly one of the best midfielders in the league that in his way will be worth the same amount of wins that an in prime Cahill would have.
Superb. Love you Everton!
