Everton are embroiled in a bitter contract row with former boss Ronald Koeman - after it emerged that the Blues are effectively paying the bulk of the Holland manager’s wages in his new post.

The Blues made Koeman one of the Premier League’s highest paid managers when he was appointed on a three year contract worth £6m-a-year in June 2016.

He was sacked in October, following a disappointing start to the season, and appointed Holland’s national team coach in February.

But it has since emerged that his salary as Dutch coach is less than 10 per cent of what he was earning at Goodison, and under the terms negotiated following his dismissal Everton are making up the shortfall.

No problem with it myself. Everton signed the contracts, if they're dumb enough to not include any clauses in them then the managers should rightly take them for all they can.

Now when Sam goes in the summer he'll have pocketed 3m for his work between Christmas and June, and will get another 4-5m as a severance package to take into account the remaining year of his deal. Close to 10m for managing us for 20 games.

Then we need to deal with Sammy Lee, Shakespeare, et al, so another few million on top. And of course not forgetting a sign-on bonus for the next manager.

Yet another reason why our club is utterly incompetent.

So who's to blame for our terrible contract writing?
