Everton crest NOT allowed on GrandOldTeam

I'm all for the club protecting it's image rights etc. However, I've no idea how they think that an Evertonian on a forum using the club crest as an avatar is going to

1. Cost them any revenue
2. Somehow damage the 'brand'

If someone from the clubs marketing or PR dept would care to shed some light on their logic then I'd love to hear it.

I've e-mailed them and asked if I can incorporate the club crest onto the ewok. I await their response.

I think it might all trace back to the two times the Blueroom was shut. Some pretty negative things were said in there and quoted by the papers.

Just one then.

It's amazing to me that these sharks can lay claim to stuff like that and try and monetize it.

It reminds me of the time Victoria Beckham threatened Peterborough United with legal action if they didn't stop referring to "Posh" on official club merchandise.

They told her to do one.

Hello,

Another polite reminder to ask that you all kindly refrain from displaying the Everton crest on GrandOldTeam.

The club do not authorise it's use on what they classify as unofficial sites and it can, and has, caused us problems in the past.

We're required to issue occasional reminders;

The moderating team will unfortunately have to remove your avatar/post if it contains the Everton badge.

Thanks,

I've put that response into google translator ( legal 2 hood ) and Elstone is basically calling you out for a fight.

Worlds gone mad mate, mad I tell ya.

Wasnt like this under Moyes, we were free to discuss fixtures and players, but El Fraudo doesnt like us talking about fixtures cos it highlights what a massive waste of wages he is.

Can we use the 2013-2014 crest? lol

But seriously, it's stuff like this that makes me less excited about football (and about the world too)

I actually thought that was a joke before checking.

Imagine Everton being sued by Thorntons....mind you, it'd be a case of the biter bitten there.

Dont forget the mess "The Peoples Club" started.

Everton and Liverpool have been a disgrace in recent years on this vendor/merchandising/image rights stuff.

Makes me laugh when you see stuff like the upcoming LFC challenge game on Sunday "for the community"...as if they give a flying one about any community - online or in physical close proximity to them that they've been destroying for years...and seizing control of the civic crest as its own FFS!

Sites like these are responsible for ratcheting up interest in their 'product' - they should be on their hands and knees praising them. I realise the clubs in some instances are acting as cats paws for the EPL, but they can in many other circumstances cut a lot of slack if they wished.

This sort of thing reminds me of my friend who ran an unofficial site for some Heavy Metal band called Rammstein. He put years of effort into this site, so much in fact that it became the number 1 unofficial site for the band and attracted them hundreds if not thousands of new fans in the process. Anyway, the band sued him for publishing annotated translations of their lyrics onto his site, which were meant to support non-German speaking fans. He wasn't in it for profit, just loved having a community of people who were as nuts for the band as he was.

Of course, he's not updated the site since 2009, and the band have lost a thriving community of followers in the process.

I'm sure you'll know what I'm getting at using this example in this thread, but I won't state it just in case that annoys them too.

So, what are you saying mate?
