Any examples of a pen being given after a player has been fouled after taking a shot? I need to prove some Manc tit wrong
I’ve deffo seen it before, but my search results keep yeildkng results for ice hockey.

The ball is still in play after, so it doesn’t matter, the foul means that he can’t get up and join the attack. Therefore it’s a foul.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: I think it was right, but a lot of people don't. When you see the angle from behind, when the ball is struck, he's completely in the line of De Gea. The goalkeeper thinks he has to set himself for the ball to come completely through the line of Sigurdsson.
As it is, it hits Maguire, but as the ball rolls on he's quite clearly in his line of vision. Anyone watching the game knowing the laws would have to say it's offside.

What drugs is Dermot Gallagher on? Does anyone really belive that someone that 6ft4 tall can't see over someone sat on the floor in front of them? I agree that at some point the ball may very briefly gone out of sight of De Gea as it passed Siggy but when the ball was stuck by DCL and when it was deflected by McGuire it was absolutely 100% visible by DeGea. He went to wrong way and got caught by the deflection. Siggy being on the ground made no difference to whether that was a goal or not. The difference was made by a very subjective VAR. VAR can only work if it is 100% objective to apply the law by the letter.

Of the all the complete waste of time programming on Sky Sports, that ref watch with Dermot Gallagher is by far the most pointless. He will only ever go against the referee on the absolute shocking howlers. When there's anything with a tiny grey area, he'll always back the referees' decision.

It probably speaks volumes about the general lack of courage referees have they are too afraid to point out each others mistakes. You've got to ask if they ever receive any proper criticism from their superiors for their mistakes they make.

They never seem to learn anything from them so the smart money would be on no.

Jesus that was possibly the worst ever decision. Or at least right up there
At the moment the ball rolled towards the net, Poll's arse hole was going half crown/tanner. The thought he would have to give us a win against the darling RS so he opted for the easy out!
How these guys sleep of a night is a mystery.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: I saw this and I wasn't sure it was a penalty. I think Sigurdsson gets the shot away, and then goes over the leg of Wan-Bissaka. When you see that there, he collapses.
You can't give a penalty for something that hasn't happened. I don't think it's a foul, I agree he sees the leg coming in but he collapses.

More bs protecting incompetent referees....
If a player slides in, taking someone out in the middle of the pitch after they've played the ball it's a foul, so why not in the box?
In response to his "you can't give a penalty for something that hasn't happened"
Forget for a moment about the penalty tag, we're talking about a potential foul, which in this case is in the area.
Cast your mind back to when Matterazi was in blue. He attempted a tackle on a Wimbledon player whereby he missed the ball and if it wasn't for the player jumping out of the way, he would have made awful contact with the player, recklessness to say the least. He got sent off for his efforts and despite all the Everton players saying the player wasn't touched, the referee stated it was down to the fact IF he had made contact, he would have caused serious injury. Double standards or what or just spouting drivel?
Thinking a bit more it may have been Pistone.
