Everton and VAR

The only good thing about VAR is it exposed the imcompetence of the prem refs who are surely the worst in world football

pity that there jobs aren't at stake like our manager is for there perfomances.
Look at Atkinsons decision regarding Zaha's penalty at Arsenal, he was about 10 yards at most behind Zaha it was quite obvious that it was a penalty, yet he had to go to VAR. Before VAR he would of got away with it, so it does have some positive benefits. But the real problem is as you say the appalling and biased refereeing, it's hard to believe that Clattenburg would have made the same decisions against Liverpool that he did against us.

"The Premier League have admitted that Everton were the victims of a mistake by VAR in a game that has led to pressure mounting on Marco Silva.

Everton became the first club to have a penalty awarded against them, following the intervention of VAR, after the on-field referee Andy Madley deemed there to have been no foul. It came at Brighton last month, when Michael Keane accidentally trod on striker Aaron Connelly.

The decision had significant ramifications as Everton, who had been leading 2-1 with 10 minutes to go in a game they were controlling, ended up losing 3-2 and all momentum that had been gained the previous weekend, when beating West Ham 2-0, evaporated.

After reviewing the incident, it is understood Premier League officials communicated that the decision should not have been given.

It is not known whether Everton have received an apology from Mike Riley, the head of the PGMOL.

Not that we'll get anything from it. Merely used to set an example, once again.

So that type of “ foul” is no longer a penalty? Another Everton first. So we are literally going to be the only team ever to be punished for that.

It was never a penalty. I really don't understand why they ever thought it was. Incidental contact like that isn't a foul unless it is somehow a dangerous play which stepping on someone's foot when you aren't aware of where they are isn't that. It was terrible when it happened and it's worse now.

Yeah that’s why I said “ foul” it should never have been but if they have decided it now is then goalscoring records will be broken as pens are going to be given every week for it. So they have now decided that would be ridiculous and so have said it’s not a pen now. I honestly believe that is corruption now rather in incompetence or 80/20. There is no way this happens to anyone of any substance. They wouldn’t even give it for city incase it effected the top of the table and drew more attention. I have no idea why they use us as the example for these stupid experiments that get cancelled as soon as they trial it agai st us and see what the media think. Then decide it’s not necessary and rules go back to how they were while we cop the loss of points

Partly due to the fact that they took an incident in real time and reviewed it with slow-motion, with multiple angles and microscopic detail to come to a conclusion.

Nevertheless, they somehow came with the wrong bloody decision, so this is simply the PL, PGMOL and everyone else not wanting a precedent to be set.

It's rubbish, but not unexpected. The more ridiculous decisions that are made using the VAR, the more scrutiny it will come under and rightly so.

So...what do we get out of it? Nothing.

When a player breaks the rules like Niasse did, hes suspended for 2 games hurting the squad.

When the officials openly admit a mistake that costs us points, there's no repercussions.

Absolute joke and says everything about how VAR doesn't work

Nice that they've admitted it, but it's a bit late now unless they want to replay the game, which I doubt either club would want as it's an extra fixture in an already crowed fixture list and it would also set a dangerous precedent

My only thought is that maybe they'll brief the refs to try and even things up for us by favouring us on the next 50/50 decision?
