Everton and Hajduk Split have been charged by UEFA over the crowd disturbances at Goodison Park on Thursday.

Everton have been charged on one count of breaching UEFA's disciplinary regulations, while their Croatian opponents face four charges.

Stewards were forced to intervene in the 33rd minute of the Europa League play-off first leg when visiting supporters surged towards the pitch, some throwing missiles and kicking advertising boards.

The players were instructed to leave the field by Slovakian referee Ivan Kruzliak and the game was halted for several minutes.

A UEFA statement on Friday said Everton had been charged over "throwing of objects", with Hajduk Split facing the same charge plus three more - crowd disturbances, field invasions by supporters and acts of damages.

The statement added: "The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body with the date of the hearing yet to be confirmed."
