.....I've found Cleverly to be a bit underwhelming, but there was a lot of us doubting the wisdom of signing Gibson from United and he surprised most. Appreciate we are talking about a fair sum of money here, but if he's the player RM wants then he obviously feels he can add value.

Aside from his amazing miss in the derby Allen has had a good season, a far better player than Cleverly.

Would say it was the reverse last season though mate, from memory Cleverley actually played really well when he was next to Carrick in the center for a period before and after Christmas

We've had a history of taking players who've been described as not good enough, not physical enough, not talented enough throughout the years mate at around 23,24yo and turning them into very very good players for this club

Arteta, Carsley, Graveson, Reid to name a few of the top of my head

I see Cleverley, Rodwell, and Colbeck in the same mold as those 4, all failed due to a variety of reasons, all with the potential to be a vital cog IF used and developed the right way

Thing is mate the story is pure Jarg as is the amount, but the actual idea of bringing in Cleverley given last time Martinez worked with him he brought the best out of him is something to take a note of IF he is available dirt cheap like

I wouldn't mind us signing him on a free... cant see him getting or even accepting a new contract at united. Its going to be interesting who does want him though as he's the biggest scapegoat I think I've seen.

Why would we ever sign Tom Cleverley for any amount of money?

Answer: We wouldn't.

We can get Gareth Barry next year on a free. We wouldn't even spend 2M on Cleverley. We've got Barkley and McCarthy already. Hell, we even have Leon Osman.

Never gonna happen.
