There is a stat going around today that Spurs have the most players to represent England after Djed Spence's appearance yesterday.
It got me thinking about how much easier it is for players of certain clubs to get England recognition, and it tends to be your London based sided.....Spurs, Chelsea & Arsenal specifically
Now i know to become an international football manager of a major nation you aren't always going to listen to public outcry or national media for who shall be playing for the national team, but i do think there is a national journalistic southern bias when it comes to selection for the England squad
Most of the national journalists will be based in London, you have Wembley at London, the news papers are in London, they are more likely to be affiliated, have more access & quicker knowledge of these players. The water cooler talk of 'there's this young kid here' builds an affiliation with these players
Look at some of the names on this list that have got caps
Harry Winks has 10 caps????
Andros Townsend & Aaron Lennon were both decent players and both played for Everton, but would they of got England recognition if they were playing for us at the time they were England players?
Tom Huddlesone, Michael Dawson, Ian Walker (who got selected ahead of Tim Flowers & Nigel Martyn for a vital WC qualifier vrs Italy when David Seaman was injured), Tim Sherwood captained Blackburn to the league title in 1995, but didn't get a cap until he was at Spurs in 1999 Dominic Solanke(And Tammy Abraham) both got obligatory caps in 2017 despite being outperformed by DCL at the time who didn't get his first cap until 2020,
Ryan Mason, Anthony Gardner, Jake Livermore, David Bentley, Steven Caulker..........all wouldn't of got a cap if they were playing for Leeds, Sunderland or Everton

I look back at someone like Robbie Fowlers mid 90s performance, i know Sheringham and Shearer performed well for England, but he got massively overlooked by England at his peak, even in the 1998 qualifiers when Shearer was injured
It happens in the youth teams as well as club performance tends to be overlooked for your Chelsea academy players who have been automatically put in the England system and eventually drop down to the lower leagues before the under 21s
I think Harrison Armstrong would already be bumped up to the under21s if he was playing for a southern based side
