The todays football thread got me thinking. The past four England managers are as follows.

Steve McClaren 2006-07
Fabio Capello 2007-2011
Stuart Pearce 2012 (one game)
Roy Hodgson 2012-14

Pearce aside and he was a stand in before the 'big' appointment was made, is it a coincidence that McClaren and Hodgson were both Uefa Cup Final losing managers?
McClaren with Boro in 2006
Hodgson with Fulham in 2010

Is this the extent of the FA's thinking in terms of recruitment or is the paucity of managers stupid enough to take the job leaving them with little other option.

Those are probably the biggest achievements of English managers of the last 10 years unfortunately

The media pressurises them into getting an English manager, they don't take into account they're all a bit crap

Its a poisoned chalic IMO..even bobby robson was slaughtered. the fa went for a Yes man in hodgson as apart from rednapp not many wanted the job

Southgate will be the next manager especially if the U21s actually do something at the finals next year

Think Hodgson is generally doing a decent job of getting the youth into the team - look at Barkley. Out injured? As soon as he's back, straight back into the squad.

The squad isn't very good right now, there's not a lot of choices in certain positions (DM comes to mind. But I think Roy gets a bit too much stick for his squad selection.

His tactics aren't the best though, to be fair. But he's really not the terrible manager that you're all making out. The England squad is just a bit broken and he's trying to glue it back together in the wake of the Gerrard/Lampard/Terry/Cole years of failure.

I like Hodgson.

Purely because we had so much fun singing, Roy Hodgson Roy Hodgson Roy Hodgson is taking us to Rio to Rio to Rio etc etc etc in Brazil.

We can sing that at the Euro's as well. Just sub Rio for Paris.

Oh and I dunno, Mourinho or something. I don't care.

I like how he is bringing through the youth and does seem a little more adept at picking people on form rather than name.

edit. As soon as i typed that i looked at the squad and a couple have me scratching my head. Why pick Lambert? He has not kicked a ball in anger for Liverpool this season. Also why Carrick, literally just back from an injury and at 33 is not really the future and as for Smalling, no just no!
