We get 3 Europa League spots (plus a possible fair play spot) if the rs finish in 5th for example and win the Europa league they qualify obviously and that's one of the 3 spots taken so we get two more spots for league positions ie 6th and 7th place. 8th will get in if the fair play spot comes into play. that's how I understand it. But then again, I am a bit dumb

Yeah this is how I'm reading it. 7th w/ a possible 8th to fair play. But nothing I've seen would lead me to believe 9th would come into play under any scenario.

Whatever, just finish 6th/7th. Solved.

seems to say England still gets 3 place in Europa next season.

So i'm assuming we get 3 places going to 5th,6th and 7th with the rs also being in it as tourney winners if it happens. If they win it and finish 5th, 6th or 7th their league place drops down one position.

Right, so if Fulham win there would be 4 spots. But if the others win, it will remain 3 as they'd have qualified anyway. Potential fair play slot would be the only way it would drop to 8th in the table though....I think??

That teams league placing does not give England anymore spots. We still have 3 teams that will qualify for next years Europa through our domestic league/cup competions regardless of whether an English team win this years comp or not.

Its not a case of the rs winning it this year and taking one of the 3 spots we have leaving only 2 places to be decided via league/cup.

If the rs win it then finish 8th then 5th,6th and 7th will get in Europa.

If the rs win it and finish 5th then 6th, 7th and 8th will get in Europe.

If Fulham win it and finish outside of Europa league qualification places we will have 4 teams in Europa next season. Yet you say if rs win it and finish in the Europa league qualification places we will only have 3. I dont think thats right.

5th, 6th and 7th go into the Europa regardless. If Fulham or Liverpool win it and finish 8th or below they also go into the Europa (The Red [Poor language removed] Rule). The spots for 5-7th are non-transferable, ie if Liverpool/Fulham win and finish in one of those slots then they just take the league slot. Simples. Dunno about fair play league.

That's exactly right as I see it. Plus: do the maths. If the titleholders get a place AND a place is due from a domestic league then that is TWO places. If the titleholder qualifies on two grounds, then a place has to be filled or a tie can't be played down the line.

nah mate, they take the holders spot i.e. straight into the group, the league spot only gets you into the quals and would be lost if the winners finish in a 5-6-7th spot.
