Defender Seamus Coleman has agreed a new four-year contract which will keep him at Goodison Park until 2014.

The Ireland Under-21 right-back enjoyed an impressive 2009/10 campaign, making his senior debut for the Blues before joining Blackpool on loan and helping the Seasiders to the Championship Play-Off final.

Donegal-born Coleman, 21, joined Everton from League of Ireland outfit Sligo Rovers for a nominal fee in January 2008, initially forming part of Andy Holden's reserve-team set-up.

His eye-catching outings for the second string earned him a call-up for the first-team's pre-season tour to America last summer but a serious foot infection scuppered his chances of making an impression.

The youngster battled back to make seven first-team appearances last term, including an impressive home debut in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in which he played a part in both Everton goals.

One wonders what the bid for Naughton was all about with this lad waiting to pull on the shirt.

Good news, id still like him to stay on loan next year thou. He's great going forward but defencivley he's quiet naive.

Wonderful. There can't be a single everton fan on the forum who can see the negative in this - surely.

*waits for Davek or someone to complain.

Excellent news - saw this whilst reading a Guardian article quoting Arteta's agent that little Mikel will not be going to Arsenal as a Fabregas replacement.

Agree that I wouldn't mind seeing him out on loan again for a tad more seasoning but he'd change the way Everton plays out of the back.

I thought that, but then realised Benfica away in the Europa League was about as deep end as you can get to be dropped into.

Coleman will keep improving. He has that fearless look on his face when playing.

Future looks bright....Roll on next season ....buzzing here...all good news so far......Just need Mikel & Peanuts to commit.

Now this does make sense. Best transfer news so far. I hope this means he's off to Australia and back in the Everton set up.
