I didn't want to bog down the main Everton forum with this so I pose my question of ignorance to the ale house...

I would like to know more about ticket revenues. These are known as gate receipts in the US but I think you get the point. Money for selling tickets and putting butts in seats. In English football, does the hosting club keep 100% of the ticket revenue or do the clubs split gate receipts with the opposing club that visits? If it is split, how?

I've become curious about this with the FA Cup matches. Would a "Blythe Spartans" pray to draw a visit to a top shelf club for the experience of the event or is it more about the financial motives and a big payday? Secondly, is the Spartans dream scenario a draw and then a shocking win to maximize the gate receipts?

Please educate the Americano.

They definitely split the gate reciepts, unsure what the percentage is though. I think the home club get a larger percentage but when your home ground holds 5000 and your opponents 65000 then they would make a greater profit from an away match

I think that's right Basil. That's why the non-leaguers dream of drawing top premiership opposition in the FA Cup as it can guarantee their future. Didn't Burton Albion or someone draw Man Utd in the cup a few seasons back and get a huge payday as a result?

There are a few angles that have been worked, notably that 'because of demand' and getting the FA nod of approval a home draw for a small side who get the visit of say arsenal can legitimatley agree to play the game at arsenal instead - small team gets more dough as do arsenal.

This isnt always a certainty though.

this form downloadable from the FA web site gives the exact revenue split for each round.

Think league matches go to the home club. The FA cup used to be split 3 ways, with the two teams and the FA getting an equal split. not sure if it's changed. probably has. everything else has

the small club if they move it to the other club also get a smaller % i think but it is often more than they would get as the home team. very often the tv may want to cover it as a potential giantkilling whereas if they move it then they arent interested.
they also move to local bigger grounds as well, blyth spartans moved a game to newcastle( not playing them though) and they had to shut the gates as it hit capacity. sometimes they can get more of their fans if they switch it too. we played telford and it was rammed, 55,000 i think, telford probably had more fans at g.p. than their own ground held.
