Goat

Player Valuation: £380m
Now im not suggesting we go in for this player, im simply asking a question. Does anybody think this type of player would fit into our system.

If we look at the strikers in our squad, none of them could be considered a Target Man. Now back in the day Target Men often came with the line "Hes got a good touch for a big man", but these days, Target Men can normally play a bit.

I would say Dunc was our last real Target Man, now it was often said we played a lot of route one in that time, but we didnt really have the players to play anything else.

Now I know we dont have any money, but if some cash was to become available, what are peoples thoughts on buying somebody like "Edin Dzeko".

We would line up something like this :

Fellaini
Billy--Arteta--Rodwell--Pienaar
Dzeko

Now clearly our football would suffer, but it would allow us to build proper attacks, with somebody who can really hold a ball up. Whats everybodys feelings on the use of a Target Man? We have a squad full of Centre Forwards, none of them are really suitable for the lone striker role.

This is a real thread by the way, ive often thought about the use of a Target Man, I was just wondering what other people thought of this tactic and whether they thought it would suit us at all.

Who cares? I just want to sign him because he's got a cool name.

Alright then. We dont struggle to score goals particularly when everyone's fit. I wouldn't see why we need to change our system to incorporate a target man. I imagine it would encourage hoofball as well.

I hate "Target Men" Blackburn do that. Bolton do that. It just makes the team hoof all the time.

Your Target Men should be a strong striker who can hold the play up and bring the midfield into attack....Yak can do that. Cahill can do that. Fellaini can do that.

If we wanted a "target man" we should've had a go for Luca Toni on a free.

BUT....if you're talking about someone who scores for fun. Then yeah, if he's that guy, get him.

You all make excellent points, mostly nebolid, but the winner so far is Besty :

I just think with the Saha situation and the fact that Yak isnt really hitting top form that we might have to start thinking about striking options.

I would like us to go down the Dzeko type of player route, what are other peoples thoughts, which type of player would they like to see us sign.

Goat, you used to be a contender, mate.

What's happening? I sense the candle flickering in the winds of time ...

(still love ya)

Leave him be. He rarely makes threads. Now he has he's getting rinsed.

Anyway...just get someone that just scores for fun FFS.

I want to sign Dzeko. Mostly because he's one of the younger and higher rated strikers in Europe.

I've never seen him play though.

He'has every potential to become one of the very best in the world. Isn't experiencing his best season at Wolfsburg though. However last year his partnership with Grafite was phenomenal. Literally every chance they worked out between the two of them, ended up in the back of the net.

I think i remember being linked with him last January. Wish we'd signed him now.

Tim Cahill, Marouane Fellaini, louis Saha and James Vaughan are all very capable in the air, and whilst Yakubu and Anichebe aren't brilliant in this area they have the strength and power to make and nuisence of themselves.

I think Louis Saha's ability in the air is vastly underrated to be honest, you just have to look at the amount of goals he's scored with his head for us, Manchester Utd and Fulham. He's got a greap leap and excellent heading technique. Our problem is we don't really exploit this because of our lack of natural width. He wins his fair share of headers, at both ends of the pitch.

In terms of link up play and ability to hold up the ball Yakubu, Saha and Jo (on a good day) are all very capble. Saha's has a tendency to hold onto the ball for too long at times but he can do it whereas Yakubu, fighting fit, is excellent in this area. Especially his relationship with Steven Pienaar and Leighton Baines.

We have two very rounded strikers at the club, good in most areas, if we keep hold of both we'll be fine in forward positions.
