ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Can't argue tbh. Think Benteke is a brilliant player and has more about him than Lukaku does currently.

Tend to agree. Maybe not "brilliant", but I reckon their transfers look pretty sound. Not that I have ever heard of this Firmino lad though. But Benteke and Milner are good, no doubt.

If Gnashers can deal with players who he maybe didnt want/sign though; different question.

I too rate Benteke although agree with another bit Carragher put in the piece " I like him as a striker and actually think he would be great for Chelsea. Jose Mourinho likes that profile of forward and sets his teams up to get the best out of them.
My worry at Liverpool is, will he be suited to the short, sharp and incisive passing game that Rodgers favours? Brendan wants his side to play through teams, rather than getting the ball into him from wide areas, a fact Tim Sherwood pointed out as soon as Liverpool’s interest became public"

Was just amused by him taking a gentle dig at Liverpool fans gushing over a player most had never seen play (which tbf you can equally apply to our transfer thread)
I think the way Villa played (sit deep, play the ball to him and break fast past him) will suit pretty well. More so if they'd kept Sterling. He's also a pretty good target man if the incisive passing isn't working.

True. Overall going to be interesting watching what they do with their strikers this season, I know we have very few but even compared to normal teams they have a huge list currently on their books - Sturridge, Benteke, Ings, Origi, Balotelli, Borini and can't Firmino play there as well?

Rodgers was talking the other week about how they will play at home. High press to win the ball back in particular with teams that play deep. I don't think that will particularly suit Benteke, used as a sub. But against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, City and United I think they will probably sit deep and hit them on the counter. Away from home, Rodgers said they would have a 'medium to low block' - in real speak park the bus - and hit teams on the counter. They will need fast players for the counter attacking game - do they have that in Firminho, Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic, Benteke, Origi, Ings and Sturridge. I think they do. Rodgers is banking on this new technical/tactical direction. Whether it works is a different matter.

Always an area they've invested pretty heavily in though I guess. Lambert too if he's not moved on.

I've heard some right crap about how the RS play. All this short sharp passing nonsense consisted of Gerrard hitting long balls to Suarez, Stirling and Sturridge in their one good year, and consisted of hitting long balls to Stirling or Whoever last year. It will be same this year, long balls up to Bent Eke...........
Interesting that 3 of those have gone and the other is permanently crocked.
