Not sure if this gem has been posted yet, but here are Brian Reade's words in the Daily Mirror today:

I wonder what Luis Suarez made of the annual PFA knees-up?

First he hears that his fellow pros twice booed his name, presumably for biting one of them, even though that other biter, Jermaine Defoe, has never been jeered.

Then Suarez hears the PFA booked a comedian whose most famous show is called "Reginald D. Hunter: Trophy Nigga," who repeatedly used the n-word in reference to him, and at the end, after loud applause his fellow pros queued up to get their photo taken with the comic.

Ah, say defenders, Hunter is black so he's empowered to use that word. But Suarez's grand-father was black, so doesn't that empower him? I know it's all about context but how hypocritical must this look to everyone outside of English football?

If I was the Uruguayan I'd feel within my rights to ask my fellow union members why they didn't boo the use of the word he was utterly vilified for.

I'd also ask Gordon Taylor why I was the only one at the PFA being offered therapy.

His grandfather was black so he can't possibly offend any black person.

Excuse me while I jet other to Ireland and call them all a bunch of Catholic, IRA supporting, kiddy fiddling bastards. It's ok lads, both my great-granddads were Irish.

*obviously I don't mean anything I said about the Irish. Just making a point.

Sad thing is that most of the bile from that lot is generally from the younger fans as well. Doesnt bode well for the future, does it?

That feller's had to turn himself into a clown in order to defend scum like Suarez.

I'm sure he realises it too in his quieter reflective moments. He'd have been tearing into Suarez if he played for United, that's for sure.

The hilarious thing is that Suarez is laughing his bollocks off at them all defending him. He'll be off to a CL club soon and leave that lot to scream how he was 'taken' away from them by 'dee inglush FA kidder'.

The internet certainly exacerbates things, like. I'd hope that things such as the example we're setting through our club's conduct over Hillsborough will have a bigger influence, though.

Despite having clowns as owners, Everton FC are the most dignified of organisations. Our fans are superb and communal minded people. That is why we are the Peoples Club of England never mind Merseyside.

We are ethically sound. That's just the way it is.

Hope so. Like most on here, I know tons of reds, and they are all sound. But both (all) clubs have a small militant tendency, which like you say, the internet is their platform for idiocy.

alot of young fans want to act like 'ultras' or football hooligans... it's a leftover from the olden days, and ones that still exist in other countries. i dont think its surprising that its the younger ones tbh, they are usualy the ones who think bein 'passionate' means resorting to the lowest denominator

lots of lads think goin the footy means they let their inner scum out for some reason. no doubt due to the example the older generations left them. let's not pretend that they're worse than the lot that came before them!
