It's not a Brendan Rodgers thing, it's something used across all of football. It's a legitimate strategic use of a player. I think what he's saying in that article is that Suarez is as important to Liverpool as Messi is to Barcelona, but he hasn't said it correctly.

Hes more of a Van Der Vaart than a Messi imo.

Messi never really plays up top on his own, which Suarez does. And id say Messi is a creative player first, goalscorer 2nd (he just happens to be ace at both).
