ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

The security checks were quite far from the ground and it was where they have always been carried out without incident.

He has also clarified his 30-40,000 claim by using transport data (trains, buses, taxis etc.) The estimate is around 110,000 people were in the vicinity.
It's good that he's clarified. Why he came out on Monday and used such numbers is concerning - it's a gaffe that our MPs like to do every other day tbh, so similar there.

From what has been reported/filmed, there were 6-8 UEFA stewards on one checkpoint at the Stade de France side of the underpass, which to me is not enough to deal with 20k people, never mind 30-40k (or more). Why were there not 1-2 more of those further away from the stadium?

This happened for the Madrid final by all accounts. Hard to judge the last one because there were only 14k fans allowed.

Someone I know said he and his friends bought 6 fakes, did he get in? , oh yes because at the last minute he got a genuine ticket for 500 euros , Fkn liar.
They cant get their heads around the fact French police wouldn't ignore criminal liverpool fans, their laughable defence and denials makes me wish the police used napalm instead of tear gas.
Some of the highest category tickets from lfc were €500, spares were £1k absolute minimum.

It 100% contributed to it. As did the absolute farce of organisation from the French authorities and the complete maniac reaction of the French police/military.

Accept that they cocked up, accept that they're lying. looks like he can't keep up with his own lies.

I am fully accepting that more RS turned up than should have done, but that could have been avoided in part by having more security checks further away from the ground.
You should have stopped right there.

So I've read up further on the statements made today.

Delaney wasn't fully wrong, but maybe a lost in translation issue, as the minister did appear to get some of his numbers mixed up but then clarified.

The French sports minister has apologised and admitted they got things badly wrong, so I'm sorry but anybody claiming otherwise is living in cuckoo land.

However, the numbers now do seem to add up more feasibly. You have to question why they didn't keep their powder dry however, as this could still be taken as a face-saving exercise. The fact is they flipped from story to story and numbers to numbers so it looks desperate, even if they are saying they can definitely say 10-20k more people turned up than the anticipated number - that being said, it's a major final, with a club that the government seemed well aware would bring more fans, so why weren't the authorities prepared. Likewise, why were UEFA not more insistent on working with both clubs, and Liverpool need to take responsibility (which I've never claimed they shouldn't).

If 10-20k more people turned up without tickets, then this could have been in some part prevented - or at least, better policed - by increased security checks in the lead up to the ground and even at the fan parks. It could all have happened without a good number of those people getting anywhere near the ground. Like I said, when I go to Knebworth on Friday, I expect my ticket to be checked at least 2-3 times before even getting to the gig arena, because that's what these places do.

Oh dear...and it seems like he realises his mistake too...

...maybe he should just STFU and leave this to proper journalists who aren't beholden to LFC for their livelihood?

I don't think he's a Liverpool fan and he works for a national paper mate so he isn't 'beholden to LFC'.

None of them are, as much as you and other blues might like to think they are.

I find it mad that the same stewards and police who dealt with a terrorist attack in the same ground magnificently couldn’t control a load of kopites who were obeying the law .

I've been through the looking glass people.

From RAWK:

I felt immediately on Saturday evening that something just wasn't right.
What's the agenda? I'm not sure.... Liverpool FC becoming too strong. Oil money in Paris. Club set up, and inconvenienced in every way? - fans, pitch, team bus etc
Liverpool being punished for being anti establishment? Recent criticism of the Tory party and the booing of the anthem? I know it was in France, but....
I'm having to stop myself, but I believe this may have been staged..
Tin foil hats with a cartoon red liver bird now being sold in the rs club shop?
