Yeah, I think that's a really good assessment. You can sense an air of resignation amongst their fans, which we all rather likeI always tend to assume the jammiest possible scenario will happen when that lot are involved. Winning back to back against Brentford and Arsenal was huge for City though.
Whenever there’s a chase on it’s always interesting to look at game to game and a gap but it’s when you look at the form required to overhaul a gap that it starts to look difficult.
Liverpool have a 6 point real gap behind City. They have 19 games left to play. Let’s say they hit absolutely unbelievable form and only dropped 6 points (17 w 2 L, or 16 w, 3 draws) in this 19 games. That would mean City would have to drop 12 points (possibly 13 depending on goal difference) in the 17 games they have left. That’s losing 4 games. It’s not impossible but as each game passes the pathway for Liverpool to win this becomes narrower and narrower. A Chelsea win or draw tomorrow obviously just makes it even harder.
It’s not over yet, but it’s looking difficult for them which if nothing else has shut their moronic fans up for a while.
. When you take the season to date and have a close look at it, you see frailties in Liverpool's side that weren't there two years ago. Alisson is a goalkeeper who has been propagandised into an all-time great but regularly makes mistakes. Van Dijk isn't as sharp since his injury and teams are more aware of how their full-backs operate. Fabinho and Henderson are both good players but that third option, which was always Wijnaldum, has not been nailed down by anyone. Firmino and Mane aren't as good as they were in 2019/20 either. In many respects they have been sustained by the imperious form of Salah, without whom they would be out of any race already.
