ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

That will "the best right back in the world" at right back. Often seen standing 20 yards out of position.
Brentford players playing one-twos off his back as he was on the floor and then scoring. Clown.

The media indulging Klopp over his 'world best' RB BS is utterly laughable.

He's a car crash player in defence. We have to target him in the derby.

Liverpool are in trouble here as I see it. They have a small squad in comparison with Chelsea, City, United and they have to try and jump out to a 7/8 point lead in the first half of the season and hope they can hold on. That was a disaster for them yesterday - not only have they squandered 2 points to get ahead of the pack, they also revealed how poor their defence is. Van Dijk all over the shop for that second Brentford goal, "Trent" (say no more), Robertson a shadow of the player from 2 years ago; Matip bang average...and that GK of theirs is getting iffy. The Brentford game reminded me of the calamity they had against Villa last season...and Brentford could have had 6 or 7.

They peaked in 2019/20. This is a team going backwards and the next few months will underline it. The Kopites know; they might be a shower of horrendous guttersnipes but they're right to sense they're well short - hence the constant complaint about lack of spending this summer when they fail to pick up a win.

It doesn’t fit the narrative of the media or Liverpool fans so maybe that’s why it’s not being mentioned but there’s definitely an elephant in the room.

I don’t know if it’s just normal service resumed and the exceptional 18 month period, at the top level, for the first time in his career was the anomaly but VVD looks a really poor centre half based on what we’ve seen since he came back.

The Rondon of defenders, he’s a shadow of the player he looked previously and right now he probably shouldn’t even be getting picked in there best pairing.

He’s skated by for a long time. Even before his injury last season he was all over the shop leaking three to Leeds and 7 to Villa. Why I’ve never rated him as one of the best is that he’s never anywhere near the danger. The ball is magnetised to the best defenders, but it also means that occasionally they get caught out making mistakes. Saint Virgil never made mistakes because he’s never anywhere near the danger area, he was always out wide or in midfield screaming at Lovren or Matip who are actually having to do the defending. More interested in putting in showy body slams against wingers for no reason or trying to bring it out and getting caught than actually just doing dirty dull defensive work. That’s why for me he’s absolutely nowhere near the likes of Ferdinand Vidic Terry Adams Kompany etc. Nowhere near them. A good centreback yes but the media are making him out as one of the best of all time. Look at how he got out jumped for Brentford’s second goal!

A good centreback who is good on the ball and was quite quick, and attacks an offensive set piece well. That’s all he’s been in my view. Any sort of decent attacking play has always been able to put him on the back foot though and once he is under pressure you find he’s mysteriously never anywhere near the danger area when the balls flying in the back of the net.

Correct. The media silence is deafening. He's looked an utter 'kin pudding this season. Plodding about, positionally poor, not alert to danger, zero goal threat.

The feller is finished - and you can see it written all over his miserable 'kin gob in every game that he knows it too.

He didn't even know where the ball was when it bounced back off the post for that 2nd goal yesterday.

Van Dijk's reputation was for being a box to box CB. That isn't remotley in his toolbox anymore. As you say, now all we have to judge him on is his defensive qualities...such as they are.
