ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

What is a legacy fan? I'm seeing this a lot. Is this just a fan?
My understanding is its generally someone with the (now very anachronistic) approach to football of going to see their local team play matches, preferably at a time when they are taking a break from the working week (this resulted in the obviously ridiculous idea of games being played of a weekend, thankfully long consigned to history). They are often just the latest of many in their family. They'll cheer when the team plays well, but sadly can be highly intolerant at perceived lack of effort. They are also known to sing unpalatable songs at players and opposition 'legacy fans'. This used to be a working class thing and most legacy fans were regular attendees and lived nearby, but that's increasingly less so these days, particularly among the 6 'elite' clubs that rotate between the 1st and 9th positions.
Historically they created the culture and funded the success of the club, however the primary function of a legacy fan in recent years is to provide an exciting soundtrack to the more important 'customers' who watch the excitement from their front room (or local hostelry for the more 'ultra' types).

This arrangement has been problematic for the clubs as these legacy fans are often unreasonable in their demands, and owners have the inconvenience of actually facing them on match days (should they elect to visit the stadia at all), however covid has thankfully provided a solution. By creatively piping a soundtrack into the tv boxes and iPads* the need for legacy fans has been mercifully reduced. This helps the elite clubs greatly as 'customers' are generally more pliable, gullible and willing to pay staggering amounts of money to drape themselves in the finery of the club while never going anywhere near the place, or if they do its generally a shopping trip.

*the 'iPad' customers are a particularly new phenomenon and have difficulty co-existing with the legacy fans as they are often subjected to requests to demonstrate such iPads and then further subjected to vile abuse.

There was a small window in which to nail your colours to the mast here. To give your opinion on the SL and its impact.
Anything other than yes or no was just sitting on the fence.
Dalglish comment. Says nowt, means nowt. He was waiting to see which way his own cookie was going to crumble.
Henderson, said nothing. Called captains meeting . Still said nothing. Heard it was collapsing and then , and only then, did he makebhis decision. Coward

I watched Toffee TV last night and Baz was chatting to one of the presenters off Redmen.
Not sure if he was talking sense on occasion or giving us the biggest head patting I’ve ever heard.

Legacy lurkers " don't punish us or the players - we didn't do anything wrong!"

Try telling this team of players and the fans who loved them about unjustified punishments, you sewer rats.

I hope that they knock the big screen down so the church is on show in the last season. But I guess it's a cinch that it'll be in full use during farewell stuff.

No asterisks against those boys.

Nev not arsed.
Reidy looks like he’s been out all night..

The lurkers won’t like the Heysel reference though.. if they’ve ever even heard of it that is.

Just saw the video of the RS chairman, what an absolute gimp, if he was that bothered about the supporters surely they would have contacted at least the sth's in Norway to gain opinion before the failed launch.
This whole episode is genuinely beyond comprehension, how can so many supposed hard nosed International business people get it so wrong, maybe our gaffers are not so bad as some on here paint them.
