ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

But you’re just doing hypotheticals again. Why have you put Dortmund through? Also PSG are a top, top side with some of the best players in the world. I appreciate wanting to be cautious and not celebrating their exit from the competition right now, but you’re just being a doomer at this point. As I said, they are 14/1 to win the Champions League, go and fill your boots if you’re that confident they will.

Dortmund have an away goal and given City’s record at this stage they are in a decent position to advance. PSG are very good but it only takes an injury to Neymar or Mbappe and suddenly they don’t look so potent.

I never like betting on them as the money would feel dirty. I just don’t know how people can be this confident after watching what they’ve done under Klopp and their unbelievable fortune going all the way back to Houllier in my lifetime at least but probably far further. They won a treble in 2001 despite being the worst team in all three finals! Same in 2005, and 2006 FA Cup, they even only had 30 odd % possession against Spurs when they won it (Kane of course not fully fit). So I don’t know why anyone thinks PSG or City being massively better than them counts towards anything in a final.

Put it this way, they ‘created’ one single half chance in Madrid, not even a chance really, a hopeful hit from outsidethe area with defenders in the way, and they managed to score from it. Do people really think they won’t create more than a half chance in the next game? They most probably will score again and that means that this tie is a long long way from being over. People saying ‘they’re out’, it’s just crazy,

1st goal is massive in that game

But at Anfield they have had a mssive bloc. I don't think they've scored a goal in open play all year there. They need to score 2, and hope Kabak, Arnold and Phillips can keep out Benzema, Assensio, Hazard, Junior, Rodrygo etc for 90 minutes.

I mean it's possible but we are delving into the extremely unlikely territory.

I know people keep briging up the Barca game. But that was a Liverpool side bang in form, with it's best players playing confidently, who outplayed Barcelona away from home in fromt of 90k fans. This Liverpool team look miles off that to me. They can't even dominate the likes of Fulham, Newcastle, West Brom etc.

Mane and Firmino are completely out of form, To me it's a far smaller chance than that Barca game that they win. I'd happily short that 14/1 price.

mbappe warming up nicely, scoring for psg.
his big money move this summer as part of the nike deal is still on course
and theres the back up gofundme page if that falls through!

The bloke who has set that up has managed to move from a family package holiday to Tenerife, to potentially getting a week away in Cannes. You've got to love the hustle. If he holds on a bit longer, it might be a trip to Orlando, off the back of scamming his own fans.

Thats 4k in 2 months? So I make it about 2000 years at the current rate they can afford the Mbappe fee!

let’s hope you are right. Momentum can shift quickly in football though and never more so with that team.

As an aside though the Madrid midfield of Modric Kroos Casemiro is absolutely incredible and is up there, maybe even close to surpassing Xavi Iniesta Busquets. Now who brought 2/3s of that midfield to Madrid?

They started the game at home with Origi and Shaqiri didn't they? I think they had a few key players out. Also, they got hammered 3 nil at the Nou Camp and by no means outplayed them at all, it should have been 4 or 5. They had no right to go through at anfield whatsoever. One of them freak results that seem to happen to them far more than others. I think I remember suarez being clean through and scuffing it when a goal would have killed the tie off. It all went very conveniently for them that night. very very conveniently. Too conveniently in-fact.

I was full on Dave K that night ready to buzz off them for thinking they had any chance. All that welcoming the coach garbage. Never ever write these off. Aren't they something like 7/2 to get to the semis? Not confident about them odds one bit.

Yes and Gini Winjaldum was also on the bench and they lost Andy Robertson to injury early enough in the game I think; but for it's a completely different discussion - the 3-0 at the nou camp was a weird one, Liverpool played very well and it was simply one of those messi days where he was simply unplayable, but in terms of the game itself it was very 50/50 despite score line.

This time round Liverpool return to an empty anfield, where they are not scoring & are not "in the habit" of winning against a team who completely dominated them pretty much from start to finish. I dont think you will ever see a situation where 8+ players individually underperform as badly as they did in Madrid & Klopp wont get things so desperately wrong, but I give them less of a hope now than they had Vs Barca despite the away goal

Yes, youre right Ancelotti signed Kroos and Casemiro.

Have to say, Casemiro must be one of the most underrated players in world football.

I didn't watch the first leg tbh but saw a few missed chances from Barca (Dembele I think when clean through).

Anfield being empty badly reduces their chances. As has been said even if they did pull it off, they aren't beating Chelsea over two legs and City, PSG or Bayern would absolutely dismantle them in a final.

To be fair he has named the charity that the money will go to. Hopefully they confirm they have had the money.

To answer the wider question, Ancelotti laid the foundation for Real Madrids recent dominance.

Pretty sure he signed Varane as well as Isco etc.
