ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

It's a huge risk them jobbing the race for the top 4. Leicester could implode, to a degree United could.

They remain long shots for the CL. Leipzig look a side missing the star striker they sold last summer. You can see theyve gone backwards this season.

I hope they put all their eggs into the CL basket. They are not getting past PSG, Juventus, Madrid x 2, City, Bayern etc. Should scrape past Leipzig (who United beat about 7-0 didnt they?)

Yeah I'm with you on most of that (exept Juve and Real Madrid) - I think they are in a "get back to winning" state of mind. I would argue their season (and alot more longer term) probably hangs on saturday

We’ve been here before. Normal rules for the CL don’t apply to them. A so called top side have just forgotten how to head a straight long ball clear. If they get a decent draw in the quarters they’ll be huge favourites for it .

They wont mate. As I've said those 6 sides wipe the floor with them. Youd fancy Chelsea against them too currently.

Leipzig are woeful this season. As I said before, I didnt fancy Leipzig at all so no surprise tonight. Them getting knocked out in the quarters suits me though. Ideally to City. Shame United arent through to knock them out of another competition.

If they'd have messed tonight up, it would have been season over.

I suspect they will win Saturday as we bottle it, but most decent sides will keep turning them over. They're really easy to play against.

Wolves 2nd best striker and Naby Keita are not going to make a blind bit of difference when they return either.

I didnt see the Mane goal, but Salah took his well tonight, but christ it was a gift.

The only three I’d give any chance of knocking them out are City PSG and Bayern. Although I reckon Flick would somehow manage to choke against Klopp. The rest would get blown away by a bit of hard running. Sad but true. The quality across Europe is terrible. Juve are shocking under Pirlo, the Spanish teams are weak this season.

again id agree - but a good few bodies back in the next week or so.

Seperately; if city go for messi with M'bappe one year left on a deal it would be absolutely insane

It'll be the owners priority. The manager and players I doubt very much. They look like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders in the PL and cast that off in the CL there tonight.

Should have said 'protect' rather than 'rested': Klopp will defo protect his front 3 at least until the first QF leg is done early April (get Jota back and play one of Salah, Firmino, Mane - keep them on the bench if needed).

They can do that and keep in touch at the very least with the top 4/5.

CL will get their utmost attention.

You get the sense Klopp has gone rogue a but, and in honesty wont give a damn what the owners think. He probably knows if he can go to the semis in this competition it makes him harder to sack, and looks more impressive on his CV. Sort of the opposite Moyes used to do here, but in reverse, kind of.

It worked tonight. Playing a poor Leipzig team on a neutral ground. However their "free spirit" reds malarkey will soon be put into perspective when they play a decent team, who will put then to the sword, as they are rubbish. It's as predictable as when they were like "why dont we just go back to attacking teams and winning 3-2". Err because your defence is awful, so is Thiago protected them, and the end result is you lose 3-1 and 4-1 whe you run yourselves out.

There will be a few articles about how they are back. We will probably bottle it and they will het past Leipzig next week, so will be full throttle about it for a bit, then the inevitable bump in the road will come again, and they will crash back to reality and will be offering each other out on social media over the rights and wrongs of living in a council house all over again.

Are Inter still in it? Chelsea under Tuchel are better than them, and Atletico Madrid will beat them. So we are at 6.

Juventus and Madrid are a long way off their best, but they will almost certainly have enough to beat Liverpool. Clubs like that can be several levels below their best and still dispose of your Liverpools of this world.

you could be right & I think most of those teams can probably beat each other, but with the exception of Man City and Bayern, Liverpool will go in as favourites to beat any other team left in the CL - not suggesting that correlates with result, just who will be favourites

They really wont be. They start underdogs against Atletico, Juventus, Real, PSG and probably Inter. Chelsea would be 50/50.

Their peak unstoppable team last year got bounced out in both legs by Atletico.

Pretty much bang on as a prediction. You can never rule them out in Europe, but they are so far off the class of the majority left in the competition it's almost a done deal...especially with no fans (even the best opposition believe the Anfield BS sometimes and fold).

I think they'll get top 4 and wont trouble the SF stages of the CL if drawn against a top team.

They really will be (possibly evens your pick V psg) but everyone else they will be strong favourites against

I repeat - Im not suggesting they should be; but the odds will have them as favourites

The bookies odds will reflect who's punting: a British audience.

Not at that level (champions league)- the liquidity of those markets wont be influenced by localised betting, I have literally written on a dissertation on this

Key takeaway for me is there is probably value to be had; to catcher's point, they probably wont beat most in a last 8; but they are likely to be bookies favourites for most ties

I cant believe that's true. IIRC United in 2009 weren't that far off from being the bookies choice against a Barcelona team in their pomp. There must be a lot of examples like that.
