ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

No - it is the other way round Catcher; Leipzig cant host the game. If I were Liverpool, I wouldnt be keen on the swap, there is a reason winning your group is incentivised & they should maintian that advantage however slight, but that may well be where it ends up

For me, it brings into light the fact that no team should be crossing borders for sport at the moment

Why can't Leipzig host the game? They are hosting other games aren't they?

It looks to me like Liverpool an't comply with the regulations in Germany at present.

And no, European games should be suspended at the moment.

The reality is they were very lucky previously with injuries, almost freakishly lucky. Of course they were all saying then "great analytics, superb scouting, you can scout for injuries, superb training methods, Bayerns physio makes all the difference" etc. So when it went well, it was systemic and not bad luck.

Now there is some mean regression and it's just "bad luck". So when it goes well it' down to Liverpool doing well and their responsibility. When it goes badly, it's nothing to do with them. It's another intellectually incoherent way to construct an argument.

Even on injuries (which is dubious anyway for reasons I mention below) what has happened is quite clear. You have a manager who only knows how to play a high intensity game plan. They have prioritised keeping the squad together and its aged together. It's gone from being around the mid table for age profile, to now one of the oldest teams in the league (they sit top 5/6 the last time I checked). Next season no doubt they will be be even older. Essesntially those players, cannot sustain his game plan.

Whats also clear, is they have no plan B. All you get from all of them is, "oh why don't we just go back to the attacking thing we were doing before" and you think- because it's not working, it won't work going forward and your players can't sustain it anymore. You look at Pep for example, who had a similar injury crisis last season, he recognised the league was gone, took the year off and developed a completely different way of playing- essentially eliminating the need for a striker. It's smart management. Klopp doesn't have that in him. It's why Pep has all the trophies he does, and Klopp doesn't.

Worryingly for them, even their younger players look shot. This is the other side of it. Not only can't they sustain what Klopp wants, but they are starting to get injured, and where not enough concern was taken in letting them rehabilitate, they are starting to break down. You see it Fabinho now, he will now quite quickly become injury prone. Posh boy Chamberlain is another, Keita, Gomes, potentially Arnold etc are all now very injury prone. The damage is done whoever is manager.

Anyway, why injuries is rubbish too. On Wednesday they had;
The best fullbacks in the world
The best midfielder in the world
The best ayer in the world (Thiago)
Their first choice midfield they all wanted
2 of their first choice front 3 (who are also the best in the world).

Essentially stick a centre back next to Henderson and have Mane playing and it's basically their best outfield 11 give or take.

Basically, Liverpool's success has been built on lashing the ball forward back to front ASAP. The two FBs were there to pick up the pieces if that punt failed. Now teams are set up to have more players behind the ball to make that less of a possibility.

Brighton was slightly different as they shocked them by getting a lot of bodies in Liverpool's half, but the pattern is set.

United showed how to take them to pieces in the first half of their game the other week. Because all of their width is based on both FB’s pushing up and basically playing as wingers. Just get both your wide attacking players to hold their position forwards when they press on, then as soon as the ball gets turned over, hit them, and the red [Poor language removed] are left with the CB’s being left to deal with a pacey forward running at them with no cover down either flank. United exploited this brilliantly but just failed to take all of the numerous chances created.

Just finished dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s on Klopp’s letter of resignation for after the City game.

Have I missed anything?

Not bothered watching that vid about VVD as I’m guessing it’s all about him being key to Liverpool’s continued success .... Does it mention about him having the same rate of turn as an oil tanker?

What it will no doubt fail to mention is that their midfield is now atrocious, which is the real reason they’ll be scraping top four.

The issue sits with UEFA, the home side not being able to fulfil the fixture on UEFA’s chosen date is not within the control of the club. So UEFA either reverse the home and away legs, change the dates of the tie or come up with a another option.

That might be what it should be - but that is simply not the case. UEFA need Liverpool to agree to any changes, there is an incentive for topping a group and that cant just be taken away to the best of my knowledge

UEFA can do as they like, if the only way of getting the games played is to reverse the legs, then it’ll be that, and they can cry all they like, there’s extenuating unprecedented circumstances.

Possibly they can - but as it stands "Uefa’s regulations decree that Leipzig must find a way of hosting the match or risk forfeiting it as a 3-0 defeat."

So basically they have told Leipzig to sort it out. Perhaps they will intervene after Monday's deadline

Germany (as in the state) have denied entry from the UK, so it is all on Leipzig

Why is it on Leipzig?

They can play the fixture, it's Liverpool who can't. It's not Leipzigs fault the German governemnt don't feel Liverpool (or Arsenal) are safe enough to enter.

Everyone should get off their high horse and reverse the fixture. If Liverpool played silly on it though, if I was Leipzig, I would turn up for the match. If Liverpool aren't there, kick it into an empty goal.

The other option, is the rules last until the 16th-am I correct? Why not play on the 17th? We are playing on the 16th now, so not a lot of difference.

A 3-0 defeat because Liverpool cannot gain entry to the game would not stand up in court. It's a threat to make Leipzig comply.

I mean, maybe Liverpool have to move a bit here. Potentially, fly in on the Monday, quarantine for 2 days in a hotel, get tested and play the Thursday. That could be acceptable for the German governent?

UEFA have extended the date by which the round needs to be completed until 2nd April. The ‘make dem forfeit da game 3-0’ is just Kopites talking balls.

They will be burrowing away somewhere to gain an unfair advantage because Leipzig beat them and they know it. Watch something unprecedented happen that wouldn't happen anywhere else.
