ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

What's the solution then? play both legs at Anfield?? o_O

Most likely option - a neutral venue for Leipzig tie, this is obviously difficult as what country would want to invite this hassle at the moment. Budapest being suggested, but to complicate matters there, I believe there is an 800 PM curfew, so not sure if UEFA will go for that.

Other options mentioned.

1) Leipzig dont fulfill, Liverpool given 3-0 result from first leg
2) both parties agree to one leg tie (not sure if away goals in play)
3) Two games at anfield (seems unlikely)

With Chelsea back to some winning ways, Liverpool will start to feel the pressure for top 4 if City beat them at the weekend. I can’t see half those players sticking around for a season without CL, the egos of Mane Salah Robertson have become enormous.

I think you would sell it to the majority for one season, it's the second one that would kill them dead in their tracks.

History shows how hard it is to finish top 4 while in Europa and that would be the killer both finanically and ambition wise

Hilarious.

Not the manager or players fault, it's the injuries...of course. One of the cult's hacks reassuring them that the jig isn't up for Klopp.

Have to laugh at that over Robertson and Arnold. Supposedly the excuse for them being inconsistent this season is because they need to have a rest. :hayee:

"The consequences of that have been seen in inconsistency from two players for whom brilliance had become the norm in the last two years."

Surely though, it would be Liverpool not fulfilling, as they can't get into Germany? They should just reverse the legs if Liverpool are unable to make it into Germany.

Basically, Liverpool's success has been built on lashing the ball forward back to front ASAP. The two FBs were there to pick up the pieces if that punt failed. Now teams are set up to have more players behind the ball to make that less of a possibility.

Brighton was slightly different as they shocked them by getting a lot of bodies in Liverpool's half, but the pattern is set.

No - it is the other way round Catcher; Leipzig cant host the game. If I were Liverpool, I wouldnt be keen on the swap, there is a reason winning your group is incentivised & they should maintian that advantage however slight, but that may well be where it ends up

For me, it brings into light the fact that no team should be crossing borders for sport at the moment

The issue sits with UEFA, the home side not being able to fulfil the fixture on UEFA’s chosen date is not within the control of the club. So UEFA either reverse the home and away legs, change the dates of the tie or come up with a another option.

The reality is they were very lucky previously with injuries, almost freakishly lucky. Of course they were all saying then "great analytics, superb scouting, you can scout for injuries, superb training methods, Bayerns physio makes all the difference" etc. So when it went well, it was systemic and not bad luck.

Now there is some mean regression and it's just "bad luck". So when it goes well it' down to Liverpool doing well and their responsibility. When it goes badly, it's nothing to do with them. It's another intellectually incoherent way to construct an argument.

Even on injuries (which is dubious anyway for reasons I mention below) what has happened is quite clear. You have a manager who only knows how to play a high intensity game plan. They have prioritised keeping the squad together and its aged together. It's gone from being around the mid table for age profile, to now one of the oldest teams in the league (they sit top 5/6 the last time I checked). Next season no doubt they will be be even older. Essesntially those players, cannot sustain his game plan.

Whats also clear, is they have no plan B. All you get from all of them is, "oh why don't we just go back to the attacking thing we were doing before" and you think- because it's not working, it won't work going forward and your players can't sustain it anymore. You look at Pep for example, who had a similar injury crisis last season, he recognised the league was gone, took the year off and developed a completely different way of playing- essentially eliminating the need for a striker. It's smart management. Klopp doesn't have that in him. It's why Pep has all the trophies he does, and Klopp doesn't.

Worryingly for them, even their younger players look shot. This is the other side of it. Not only can't they sustain what Klopp wants, but they are starting to get injured, and where not enough concern was taken in letting them rehabilitate, they are starting to break down. You see it Fabinho now, he will now quite quickly become injury prone. Posh boy Chamberlain is another, Keita, Gomes, potentially Arnold etc are all now very injury prone. The damage is done whoever is manager.

Anyway, why injuries is rubbish too. On Wednesday they had;
The best fullbacks in the world
The best midfielder in the world
The best ayer in the world (Thiago)
Their first choice midfield they all wanted
2 of their first choice front 3 (who are also the best in the world).

Essentially stick a centre back next to Henderson and have Mane playing and it's basically their best outfield 11 give or take.
