ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Jagielka was younger when he did his and probably quicker in his prime than Van Dijk was. Jags came back to a decent level but he was never lightning quick anymore. There’s no comparison in my eyes between the centreback we had pre 2009 and the one after it. Same with Arteta, he lost that half yard that made him dangerous once he did his cruciate. He effectively jogged through the rest of his career at Arsenal.

All true. The Jagielka story is very much a best case too. He changed his game, relied in reading the game more, but was never as good.

Arteta was a fraction of the footballer. Bolasie has just completely collapsed.

I suspect Van Dijk will be ok. He reads the game well, is big, is a good passer etc. By ok, I dont mean best defender in the world, but a good PL cb.

Gomez though, who has a horrendous scar on his knee (just guessing but I'd imagine it will be his petular ligament) could go the Bolasie way. Without pace, hes a poor defender. Hes ot that back, doesnt read the game well and essentially relied on pace to get him out of trouble. I'd be more worried about him than Van Dijk if I were them.
