If they were that concerned about the effects of a curtailed summer break and then a packed season due to late start they should not have been so insistent on finishing what was a dead season back in June.

I said it at the time, surely the best thing to do would have been draw a line under 19/20 (with whatever outcome agreed) and start 20/21 early to give breathing space for either another COVID pause or individual matches to be rescheduled if a team has an outbreak. They did the exact opposite and started the season late with the hardstop of the euros at the other end.

The greed involved in finishing a dead season is the cause of current high fixture tempo for teams in Europe, but they wanted it this way more than anyone else so reap what you sow.

all we need now is for someone to photoshop the old training ground in heaven telling the new one that it’s doing a great job.
