ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

The Daily Mail has been trying to rival the Mirror to see which rag can stick its head up Liverpool's rear end the furthest. Their embargoed news last night was that David Coote 'forgot' the rules that he could have sent Pickford off despite the offside (denied by the PGMOL today, won't hold my breath waiting for the retraction though) and they are also claiming that he's been dropped (despite the fact he refereed the Leeds-Wolves match last night and is on Fourth Official duty at the weekend).

Christ, this reaction is making me almost feel sorry for referees!

Rob Green on Sky defending Pickford.

For a keeper who wasn't very good as a player he actually did a very good job of trying to explain what was going through Pickfords head. I think the most pertinent point he made was that keepers normally make that type of challenge when the striker is approaching them with the ball at their feet. In this case the ball was in the air, so VVD had his foot planted when contact was made. Normally they'd be in a position to evade the keepers challenge. Still wreckless by Pickford though.

He defended the offside Henderson goal too. From the view behind the goal you could see he was completely unsighted by Mina, and so guessed where the ball was going, Had Henderson made a proper contact he probably would have saved it, but because he scuffed the shot Pickfords dive was beyond the ball which hit him on the wrist. So basically, rather than it being a howler it was actually a decent attempt by Pickford to save a shot on which he was fully unsighted. Interesting assessment :coffee:

It‘s known as the Virgil defence, they haven’t got a leg to stand on.....

Its a Good Point! Yet no pundit or hack has spotted this?

Because they don't want to. It doesn't fill pages and pages newspaper print media, hours and hours of 'sports news', it doesn't generate clicks & hits and it doesn't keep him and them in the spotlight. I posted previously he got his studs caught in the turf and pulled his knee that way. It needs calling out now.
