ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

That Werner transfer, the battering they have taken through sponsorship, selling of premium seats, merchandise has really cut deep,I also think they were hoping for a big bid for one of their players, maybe Salah, thats been knocked on the head,I honestly dont think there will be any major incomings there for a year or two, they will be looking at players with contracts running down etc

In financial uncertain times why would they spend 100m including 200k a week wages on a player who wouldn't be first choice.

It was under 50m. And they'd sign him because he's miles better than their current striker. Werner has scored more goals this season than Firmino has managed in the last 2, and is about 5 years younger. Werner is already levels better than Firmino will ever be.

Basically yes. The more this goes on the more convinced I am they are in trouble, as I reported months ago. They overstretched themselves 2 years ago, breaking the transfer record twice and also paying £50m + for Fabinho and Keita. The fees will be a lot higher when you factor in the agents fees involved too. Their wage bill is unsustainable and relies upon fairly soft income from revenue and sponsorship holding up, which it won't.

Klopp papers over the cracks currently. All the time they have him they will be fine. Once he goes though it will be difficult for them. One thing I will say about that lot, is they can't really cope with going backwards. They very nearly bankrupted their own club the last time they had 18 months where the tap was turned off by H & G. We are looking at a much longer reduction in spending now. Good luck selling that to the entitled bellends who've jumped on the bandwagon late and just expect massive marquee signings every season and think they're Real Madrid. They will leave them and go back to supporting United or Chelsea or whoever.

This. We always find a way to lose against the RS. Sly late winners, dodgy late penalities, 4-0 hammerings. Here was an opportunity to not just beat them, but give them a good spanking on their own ground. We should have done what Villa had done in the EFL. Their kids aren't anything special. I seriously doubt any of them will tear up the EPL.
The only thing I've heard about Curtis Jones since this game is his fish-mouthed sister beating up some teenagers.

Yes thats all true. That's the awful bit of it. It was far from a youth team they put out as widely reported (the age gap was actually less than in the derby when we were the younger team). However they're young players are nothing special, and the squad players are pretty hopeless. We should have been winning that game 5+-0. That's my disappointment, not that we didn't win, we didn't do so by a record margin. In fairness, our players were exhausted and theirs were fresh, but given how poor their players are (Minimano, Milner etc) it should have been a 5-0 job.

Even with Klopp, who has done a tremendous job to be fair, they have been rather lucky with injuries to their main players, those same players will be another year older and the value will be dropping, chances of them getting upwards of 70/80m for any of the front 3 have gone, add that to most of the sponsorship being linked to hitting certain targets and it leaves a massive hole in the finances, its a club that havent had a long period of failure in over 40/50 years,in 2005 the gates were slowly dropping,if they have a couple of years finishing outside the top 6 it would devestate them

Yes to all of that. I remember the last time we had something like this (a global downturn) they went from title challengers to in the bottom 3 in about 18 months. Fortunately thanks to a stitch up (and essentially H & G's stupidity) they were allowed to transfer their debt onto someone else and were then not bankrupt. There's no way FSG make those mistakes. I mean on here there's some fatalism it will happen again. H & G essentially got outvoted on their own board hence why they lost. FSG have ensured they have far more loyal people involved to them, and if people look like they're getting uppity, they will just be fired and replaced. Sports trading is what these guys do, they don't allow a franchise to vote them out of hundreds of millions of debt they owe.

As for the rest yes, they have missed the boat on big sales. VVD is 29, Firmino 29 soon, Salah and Mane 28. We are told the market, particularly for 27 upwards is collapsing. They've missed the boat big time.

And yes, they are committed to these wages for at least 3 years. If they start missing out on Europe, it will make Leeds look tranquil.

Wonder what happened to all the white Suarez T-Shirts then ? Was it fake news..
Never happened!
All the furore and fume towards the RS is mightily welcome in these sad times and we should use the opportunity to have a giggle where we can at their expense.
But sadly, those of us with a good few years behind us know only too well they will emerge from this smelling of the proverbial.
