ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Is it just me, or are there other Blues out there who are now past caring whether those lovable rs win the league or not?
I say this because with every passing year that they don't win their 'holy grail', the desperation of their fans, pundits, players and officials becomes more and more unbearable.
Coupled with that, the media love-in simply increases in intensity year after year.
Sadly, for the rest of the football world, beating north London's second best team in June hasn't satisfied their narcissistic appetite.
Any chance they can just be presented with the title now and calm things down a little?
(After the open top bus tour obviously. Pyros and bottles at the ready....aargh....almost forgot; we are Everton. Attacking opposition buses isn't in our make up thankfully).
Wimbledon coach was torched I seem to remember.

I hope City win but funnily enough the world keeps turning if Liverpool do instead. Some would do well to remember this.

This is right. I need to get this off my chest....

I keep telling myself that there are far more important things in life but the mind plays tricks and convinces you otherwise. It's as if tribalism trumps all rationality. We're so heavily invested in our clubs that we're incapable of detaching ourselves from the animosity of football rivalry. Most people on here seem to be likeable, sensible folk who no doubt have a range of responsibilities (mortgage, kids, job, etc.). This no doubt goes for every club's fans. We share the same fears, anxieties, interests and pleasures in life. The only thing that separates us is the teams we support. What is it we're actually 'supporting'? A corporation with a carefully-assembled squad of athletes from all parts of the globe, all paid huge sums of money, mostly with very little in the way of connections to the cities in which they play. Why would any person get worked up over a game involving that? But we all do.

The biggest problem, as I see it, is the complete and total media saturation of the game. Sky TV have near enough monopolised the game in this country. With a 24-hour news channel relentlessly banging on about Sunday's match, we are hoodwinked into believing it is far more important than it is. You just can't escape it. Hatred and bitterness plays out over the abomination that is Twitter and you can't steer clear of it on Facebook or WhatsApp. It has become all-consuming and unhealthy. I attended a work seminar yesterday at a hotel and I couldn't even enjoy lunch in peace without having SSN shoving Klopp's mug in my face. The pressure just cranked up another notch. It won't be long before we're reading about people with mental health issues linked to following football. I'm not near that point but can I just have lunch to myself? Please?

When my Dad was a lad, following football was confined to Shoot magazine, MOTD, small amounts in newspapers, small amounts on radio, going to the game itself and the FA Cup final on TV. That was it. No 24-hour news bias or PSG v Nice on a Saturday night. He was far more happy as a football fan in those days than now, and far more able to distance himself from its self-importance. Does football really make us happy anymore? It's a similar argument to whether or not kids of today with phones, tablets and an Xbox are happier than kids who climbed trees and put down jumpers for goalposts.

Anyway, l shall be watching Sunday's game knowing full well l won't be able to heed any of the above from the sanctuary that is behind the couch.

Kopites are gobsh*tes, up the blues!

Sky pay huge amounts of money, so they are gonna sensationalise and milk it for everything it’s worth. Its a huge game tomorrow, Sky used to do it when the UTD v Arsenal games were played as they were pretty much head to head for the title them days. Because it Involves our rivals, we’re seeing things that aren’t really there, there’s no favouritism, it’s Sky getting bang for their buck and promoting it as some sort of title decider. They’ve done it for decades and will continue to do it. Its not so much Sky that’s ruining the game, it’s more Social media and internet that’s changing the fans. Keyboard worriers stoking the flames before games, saying horrible and nasty things about players, fans etc. Some of these posts, tweets, whatever, go viral and creates a bad atmosphere. Football fans are precious and extremely defensive of their team. It’s the internet age thats made it all consuming, Not Sky.
The bolded line above. Wouldn’t surprise me if one or 2 on here really have, given some of the posts about conspiracies and officials having it in for us.

Whilst I suspect that you are probably right, I think that the Twitter vitriol gets ramped up because of the media saturation and time/space that needs filling. The excessive coverage feeds the online hysteria. It is the hyperbole, married to the constant flow of opinion and analysis, that creates this feeling of life-or-death. It has dominated the agenda for nearly a week. In reality, it's three points up for grabs in the 12th match of the season. There are 26 matches left after its conclusion. 26! It's too easy to lose perspective.

Sometimes we even get reds on here pretending to be blues, mad eh?

Just visited pne of my kopite uncles, putting his paper down he told me the media will be so disappointed if city dont win tomo. Honestly the most delusion set of whoppers known to man, managed to keep my mouth shut and not call him a murdering beaut with no self awareness

Thats football fans for you, we’re all the same, we all think our team is hard done by. I’ve seen games where both sets of fans are saying the ref is biased towards the other..........in the same game. Football fans, all are hypocrites, it was a pen a foul, a handball etc etc for us, it wasn’t for them, all are precious, all are pig-headed, all are ultra ultra defensive of their team whenever anything negative is said when sometimes its defenceless. We are all strange people whereby a game can make us all so angry and rabid. No set of fans are exempt from this. Just read your post and see the vitriol because he has the temerity to have a different opinion and tell me I’m wrong.
