ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

Yes they were formidable together whilst Van Dijk has to play next to Lovren lol
I'd rate Ferdinand above Terry personally but VvD is definitely in the same league as them despite those two playing in a couple of the best PL winning teams.

Will be interesting to see how Koulibaly gets on in the PL when he surely signs for City, Chelsea or Utd.
Another player picked up for a modest fee (10m) - hopefully one of those gems will rock up at Goodison in January...

Can’t compare Van Dijk to Terry, Ferdinand and Vidic, do it in a few more years time when he’s been doing it season in, season out. At this moment in time Van Dijk is a quality defender, just not of the quality of those 3 yet.

Remember when we sniffed at the possibility of us taking him when at Celtic? It's only the SPL. Give him a swerve.
Adds to the other two who we deemed not worthy of the mighty Blues, Andrew Robertson and Harry Maguire.
I shall go and weep into my sprouts.

Like it or not he's better than Vidic. The Serb was aggressive and pretty formidable in an already dominant team alongside one of the other best CB's the league has seen in Ferdinand who was also a superior footballer.

The Dutchman is most certainly quicker, as strong as Vidic, just as good in the air but better on the ball and has a greater passing range.
However, what sets him apart is the effect he has had on that defence and their team as a whole. To go from being a side considered to have a dodgy defence to letting in 7(?) goals half way through the season is impressive to say the least.

Was head and shoulders above everyone else at Celtic so I surprised more teams weren't in for him when Southampton snapped him up.

Looked top drawer in an otherwise mediocre Saints side so there's a reason City were in for him too. If they'd have succeeded I think the title race would likely have been a one horse race for several years.

From what I've read he's clear favourite for POTY at present....
He’s good yes, very good in fact, much better than what I thought. But nowhere near Vidic.
Vidic is a defenders defender, he was there when Man U needed him most, we can’t say the same about VVD. The Dutchman needs to win silverware before being compared to great defenders.
All these people with their tongues stuck up RS arses, let’s judge him at the end of the season if he wins anything.

Will probably be 6-7 points clear by the end of today. Can’t see City getting 3 points at Leicester.

I think they'll get get to about 9/10 points clear and their fans will start doing that victory bus parade stuff they started doing under Rodgers and they will then crumble under the weight of expectation.

If they win today and City lose though, I reckon the rs would be clear favourites for the title and its whether they can handle that expectation.

Tbh I see them winning it this season. City have had too many blows regarding injury and will be focussed on all 4 comps whereas Liverpool will throw everything else if they think they can win the prem and their fans will be pleased with that. The Sturbridge goal, the Mahrez pen miss, Pickford blunder, players missing from about a yard out. Everything that could have gone for them has and on the back of that they’ve not incurred any major injuries at all. It’s been a perfect storm. I don’t think they’re the best footballing side in the league at all, City and Spurs are both better in my view, but a bit like leicester this season just seems to have their name on it with anything possible going for them. They even met Spurs at probably their lowest ebb, and seem to be on course to meet City without some of their top players and in their lowest slump of the season.

Agree its looking grim mate but there's plenty of twists and turns I reckon. They always seem to find a great way to implode on an ever larger scale than us when it matters most and I still reckon that could happen ;)
