2025/26 Dwight McNeil

Good job because his right foot is purely for aesthetics, he is ridiculously easy to defend against. If he gets any game time on the right then it will be a travesty for him and the team.
God, do i hate those lazy comments. " he is ridiculously east to defend against ". What does that even mean?! When he was smashing goals in he wasnt easy to defend against was he. When Saint- Maximin was at Newcastle he was out on his own for successful dribbles. I wonder who was second? That lad who is ridiculously easy to defend against thats who. I am well aware of his faults but to make out he is hopeless is just stupid. A fit and confident McNeil will be in this team during Afcon i predict.

It means he is completely one-footed, you show him on to his right foot that’s how you play against him. He’s easy to defend against…
I’m not making out he is hopeless, who is? Feel free to do some breathing exercises and then show some examples of this. I state that it will be a travesty for McNeil (not really playing to his strengths is it?) and the team if he has to play on the right because it’s not going to get the best out of him because he will constantly want to use his left foot to come inside, he will also probably have O Brien behind him at right back who struggles when he’s asked to join in going forward. It’s hardly rocket science is it?

As an aside how many goals has Dwight McNeil “smashed in” please?

He s got 14 goals and 15 assists in 97 games, so almost every third game he directly contributes to a goal. Tell me youre joking about the screamers please mate! 🤷‍♂️🙈

He doesn't really pass the eye test but those are decent enough numbers given how poor we have been since he arrived. Plus he is one of the only players we have who will actually have a shot from range.

For a backup winger he is absolutely fine, 18 months ago he was our only creative outlet

Under Dyche, our team was set up to get the best out of him and he played like someone who belongs in a relegation scrap.

Capable of enough magic to make a decent video on Youtube but he's terrible for breaking down attacks. Glad we've improved so much his time on the pitch is limited.

On the few occassions he has played on the right I don't think it has worked and I would be more excited to see a run of games for Dibling, but McNeil cutting in on his left and getting some shots in has some merit in theory, especially in a team where the strikers have been firing blanks for the most part. I daresay both will get minutes during the AFCON.

Very limited player but very useful. If we’re 1-0 down, he can make a difference. Not from open play, where he is ponderous and aggravating, but from dead balls.

There’s no one at the club I would rather have on corners and free kicks. If he plays for 20 minutes, he makes you at least one goal scoring opportunity.

Also, there’s no way we get 20 mill back if we try and sell him.

I think either McNeil will do well in Ndiaye's absence, or he wont.

Controversial I know. But I actually think theres a decent chance our preferred system attacking on Grealish's side suits him. Then he can collapse in and striker crosses with his left foot on the backside of the defence. Hes worlds better than our #4 winger last season.

1 goal in 7 is not bad, averaging just over 5 a season. The assists are a bit misleading, because he played mainly for a set piece manager and took everyone. He’s doesn’t create much from open play , apart for the odd cross

Wait does an assist from a set piece not count? How is it a misleading stat?

Of course it does, just the fans who have a high opinion of him always throw in his assist stats like he’s creates loads of chances. When something like 70% are deal ball situations
If you wanted to jump on the stat wagon, although I couldn't answer it.

How many more free kicks have we won this season compared to previous. So those opportunities to assist would obviously increase.

Although his alround gameplay isn't at the standard we need.
