Dutch Linesman beaten to death

Just another example of how society is circling the pan right now, especially with the attitudes of a lot of the younger generation (I'm 50 before anyone asks). These days, everything that goes against them is considered a personal affront, even someone getting the better of them in a game. A clean hit in hockey used to be greeted with a muttered "nice hit," now it almost always results in a fight. Taunting and trash-talking is the rule, not the exception. Respect for authority is lower than it's ever been, the sense of entitlement never higher. They have to have everything and they have to have it now, earning it the old-fashioned way be damned.
Back when I was a teenager if you had a beef with someone, you took it into the parking lot after school and bare-knuckled it until someone won, then it was over. These days, you've got the loser coming back with a knife or a gun and escalating the situation. If you ****ed up in school, you dreaded going home because the punishment would be even worse than what the school dished out; now you've got parents expecting the schools to be babysitters, yet scream bloody murder if their kid is so much as looked at the wrong way by a teacher. And kids getting failing marks in school? You're having a laugh, at least over here.
No one, it seems, is accountable for their own actions any more.

Absolutely spot on, the last part in particular. I find it quite staggering how when I was at school (a relatively short time ago - I only just turned 30) if your teacher said you'd done something wrong or weren't putting enough effort in, your parents would apologise to the teacher and make sure you were dealt with over it. Since then there has been a huge shift towards parents just automatically believing the child irrespective of what they may have done, to the point where teachers are frequently shouted down and/or intimidated by parents whose little angel can do no wrong. Obviously this is not all parents - just a change in attitudes has imo seen a significant shift in this direction.

People used to be brought up to respect others and generally act in a decent way. Good manners cost nothing etc. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly that has gone out the window.

I used to coach a team when I first started teaching (2001). Took a team of 12 yr olds up to another school. We went 6-1 up and things started getting dangerously nasty. I told my team not to react and told them to abandon and to head back to the minibus. Their players started chasing our boys and ignored the protests of their teachers and mine too.
Ended up with them hurling sticks and stones at the minibus while we were trying to drive out. Nuts! They were all excluded, but only for 2 days. Their teacher who was coaching resigned in the morning after being confronted by a parent who blamed him and also our school for being chicken. Don't coach anymore because of having my own family, I miss it but not incidents like that.

Three panda cars came down to one of our sunday league matches. One of our team started fighting with one of the opposition players and they both rightfully got sent off. Few minutes later it all kicked off on the side of the pitch and all the parents got involved. Tbf all of ours were trying to calm stuff down and most of there's were the 'how dare you say that to our little angel' types. I kicked one of their parents in the face coz he was scrapping with one of our innocent parents on the floor and wouldn't get off. Not arsed it was funny as **** and the guy deserved it. Proper horrible arrogant prick who thought the sun shined out of his lads arse. Turns out he was an off duty copper but no one grassed me.

Players?! What the ....!

They should get put away for manslaughter and never allowed to step on a football pitch again.
