Duncan Mackenzie

I loved watching Duncan Mck, he was my first true Football love, him and a lesser mentioned Gary Jones from Billy Bingham era( I think) I also seem to remember either Duncan or Gary applauding Gordon Lee after being substituted and they never played for us again? Please correct me if mistaken.

I also remember being at Wembley for League Cup Final v Villa in 77 and the highlight of a pretty dire game was when the guys spent some time just after half time looking for something on the pitch, rumour was it was a contact lens from one of the Royal Guards band but never really had this substantiated! The replays well different matter great games with ultimate disappointment but that is another story!

We all Agree Duncan McKenzie is Magic!!

We raised the bar when him and rioch signed.
Yep,they were two really exciting signings,Rioch never really settled and didn't look the player he was for Derby unfortunately,Duncan though and his tricks,ok as you get older and realise what the game is all about, but as a kid you just wanted to practise those fancy flicks and be like Dunclol

Yeah he was our fantasy signing.
Then when he went I think eastoe and kidd came in.

Rioch was some player though. As he himself once admitted, he left too soon.

I remember the Liverpool semi final he was great but he seemed to choose his games.
At the time though to see him in our kit was fantastic
The only clip of this semi is a 2 minute one on Youtube. It shows all 4 goals and also talks to Clemence and Hughes about it. They both admit there was nothing wrong with Hamilton's 'goal'. Unfortunately it doesn't include MacKenzie's taking the piss out of Tommy Smith with his delicious over his head flick and one through the legs. Hilarious to see Smith legging after him trying to stop him getting in the cross for our second equaliser.

That Hamilton goal haunted me for years.

Hurt seems a prerequisite for us. Every year Clive Thomas' name is mentioned somewhere. He'll get his dues at the Pearly Gates.

I always remember as a kid the buzz of excitement at his first home game v Birmingham, loved Dunc as a kid me:)
I went the Coventry away game for there debut , we got beat of course , I got punched by a copper in there end and nearly arrested for something I hadn't done , took the dig Instead, about the only good thing about the day was spending the second half watching a young scouse lad with one of there girls at the back of there end, it had a drop and stairs down , wouldn't be safe if you went over it, but he had his evil way as we all cheered on, she was loving it.
Not a good start to waching Duncan and I don't really think he did much in most of the games, but when he did he was truly majic , not an Everton get in my eyes, good on his day yes.

Went to Ainsdale when they used to do the pre-season sand dune runs. The players were all coming down the beach in dribs and drabs, and Lyons was in the last group. We asked him where dunc was and he told us he had run over the first dune, got to the road, then hitched a lift! Also got to speak to Gordon Lee who said that if we'd have had a decent keeper, we'd have won the league - so must have been 1978. Met Dunc a few years later in a bar in Rotterdam and he was just a really top bloke
