Nice piece. One strange factual error though. The writer talks of Burnden Park holding only 20,000 at the time of the League Cup encounter in the 70s, when it was more like 60,000 as I recall.

54,000 at goodison and 50,000 at burnden. The floodlights started sparking half way through game and dunc (I think) did the worst penalty ever.
 
I think these days players are told to hide their true character on TV and interviews. Mainly because if the media latch on to you, you will never have a moments piece, they will follow you around and camp outside your house, waiting for you to do or say something.

Look what has happened to players like Gazza, he can't sneeze without the press being all over it.

Other players like Joey Barton clearly revel in their notoriety, but it affects how they are treated, the clubs they play for, sponsorship deals, etc
