Nice piece. One strange factual error though. The writer talks of Burnden Park holding only 20,000 at the time of the League Cup encounter in the 70s, when it was more like 60,000 as I recall.

What a great read that was.

That team of 1977/78 was fantastic,

LCAB points out that we finished third that season to the team which would go on to win a European Cup for the next two seasons.......and one which was in the process of successfully defending that same trophy.

I had never looked at it like that before.

And we had a right go at the Title the following season as well.

I have said it before on this forum.

Gordon Lee is a much maligned figure in Everton history and he well desreves a bit of credit for his record when he was here.

His unpopularity stems from the mistaken belief that he never played McMagic very often but that article clearly shows he used him plenty and to great effect.

Why not, Eggs?

I thought everyone of our vintage liked McMagic.

.....I always considered him a circus player, Khalekan, just not the type that I'm a fan of. I didn't dislike the bloke, there's nothing to dislike. He tore the back out of Tommy Smith in that first FA Cup semi final but all in all he wasn't for me.
