Strange on both counts. Firstly because we're led to believe that he was running a training session 24 hours before an absolutely massive game, which seems very strange if he's on the outside of things, and secondly because the only two players I've spoken to who played with Ferguson were effusive in their praise of him as a person.

I agree. This is our problem or part of it. Sentimentality leads to poor choices. We are all guilty of it

I’m fed up of the ‘people’s club’ mentality, the likes of Jeffers, Ebbrell, Unsworth, Ferguson etc they never won anything worthy of inspiring kids to be world class footballers. It’s great we do so much for the older generation that didn’t get the pay they do today etc but we need winners. Dunn was my hero in my early teens, but let’s be honest he wasn’t a world beater. I for one wouldn’t be bothered if he has left because the entire back room at Everton stinks and needs a complete overhaul, they are just not good enough and it reflects on the team.

I thought you meant Richard Dunne there until I remembered that this was the Dunc thread. Dunn must have been autocorrect or something. Before it clicked, I was thinking you were really raised in a poor era of Everton if Dunne was your hero.

Having said that, he'd probably be straight in as captain if he was around now. Actually either of them.

And Martinez came in and stuck a few pics back up, invited HK to Finch Farm, and rolled home roaring with laughter at how easy it was to play our fanbase that he 'gets' Everton.

Sometimes you need a new broom, sometimes you don't and need to get back to your roots. Right now I'm NEA if Allardyce commissions a statue of Neville Southall on Goodison Rd, or if he bans every ex-Everton player from Finch Farm in perpetuity - all that matters is what happens on the park.
