After what happened to Neil Lennon I don't blame him tbh.

Well there's that, and he's ours now! You can have Kevin Kilbane if you want...

No offence mate but that's BS. True Lennon was booed and it was disgusting, but people in the North have moved on.
I am no lover of our national side but their supporters have been brilliant with a Derry-based catholic that plays for Celtic (Paddy McCourt) and also a County Tyrone based catholic playing for Celtic (Niall McGinn) so really that argument does not wash any longer.
Re Duffy, I don't care who he plays for so good luck with the ROI and I hope it benefits your career at Everton...because to me that's what matters most.

Good man Duffy, great decision, hopefully he will fullfill his potential.

I dont know why worthington is moaning about the rule, as has been said, its more to do with the everton academy coaches helping his development than the 4 or 5 times a season he would meet up with northern ireland.

I support Rep Ireland in international footy, but if i'm very honest, it doesn't bother me who he chose in Ireland as long as he is boss for Everton

Dont forget, his dad is from Donegal too. Cant understand why Worthington didnt give him a few mins against Italy and he would have been a full N Irish international then.

Apparently not. Last line of the linked report: "Even if Duffy had come off the bench against Italy last summer, he could still have opted to switch to the Republic. The move could only have been blocked if he had played in a competitive qualifier."

Has he not got a parent from the Republic?

There was a little bit about him in one of the programmes last season when they interviewed the kids coming through. Even then he said he eligible to play for both Republic and Northern Ireland.

His father is from Donegal :)

personally ragin when i heard about this. if im not mistaken he came through the n ireland youth ranks. cant understand why if he was happy to play at that level for norn iron then why defect now. maybe hes starting to believe the smoke people connected to him are blowing up his ass.
he looks a good prospect alrit but feel that hes shown no loyalty to those who guided him in his early career path.

another loss for us along with man utds darren gibson who done a similar u turn a while back.

unfortunately we really need the likes of these guys to come through to carry on any momentum we have. until then it looks like well be stickin with stevie craigan at the centre then:dodgy:

id also have to disagree with those who think the republic are a better team with more liklihood of doin things on the international stage. our results against some of the best teams in the world over the past few years speak for themselves. just ask becks and co, or raul and co :D

not brazil norn iron coyb

Made up with this, we badly needed an up and coming centre half the future is looking bright for us now a lot of very talented youingsters bubbleing under the syrfice with Duffy, Coleman, Gibson, Mc Geady and McCarthey all going to make the grade IMO.

I beleive Jamie O Hara of Spurs/Pompey is extreamly close to declaring for us, Kevin Nolan perhaps (not to bothered to be honest) next year and Kyle Naughton is mulling over his options (not like him is it). (y)

You should have a unified team, like in the rugby. It's all Ireland anyway.

Agreed i think its more about money, power and junckets for both associations these days rather then any thing else, well for the majority anyway! (y)

Anyway i think his decison may have more to do with on and likely of the field wonga he could make playing for Ireland there is a lot of commercail exposure and tie ins for players in the Republic, your playing for a bigger market! Probably a decent career in pundetry beckons its amazing how many formal irish international make a career for themselves on both sides of the Irish sea.

Unfortunately, the culture in rugby is much more moderate than the footballing culture.

Speaking as a former Lansdowne Road steward, there was never any trouble at the rugby matches. And I've done a few Leinster/Ulster matches in my time. Everyone gets on grand.

Rugby is a posher game I suppose:lol:
