Lose Charlton - Dubai Everton

By CHARLIE WYETT

EVERTON are set for a £200million takeover bid — from the Arab billionaires who wanted Charlton. Zabeel Investments, owned by Dubai’s royal family, are ready to drop their interest in the Londoners.
They made a £20m offer for the Championship club just a week ago but now feel the Merseysiders would offer better value for money.
Ironically, Zabeel have previously shown an interest in buying Liverpool and have been linked to Arsenal, Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham as well.
Company chairman Mohammed Al Hashimi and his representatives are willing to wipe out Everton’s £52m debt.
They would also bankroll the move to a new stadium, with £78m of funding needed.
But the news will anger Charlton, where Zabeel had planned to buy the club and wipe out their £20m debt.

Think I've seen that somewhere on the forum, can't remember the exact thread. Think Attrotel might have posted something in the Keith Harris one. Certainly interesting if it does come off.

See: Harris confident of takeover

Seems a bit unlikely to be honest, Bruce. First they're buying Charlton, then Everton but they might still buy West Ham, Liverpool, Newcastle ...

Lazy journalism???

Still, it's a story of sorts which is why I popped it up here.

I suspect most journalists are lazy to be honest. We do seem to be getting mentioned in these kind of stories more though, and of course respected hacks like Mihir Bose seem to think a deal is imminent. That kind of thing would carry more weight than something in the red tops.

Oh dear. And there were all the Charlton fans at work bragging about how rich they were and how they will replace paupers like Everton in the Premier League :)

Unbelievable, sums up everything that's wrong with the modern game of football. Something like Charlton, even thinking they can ever replace Everton.:@ Always have mixed feeling about these takeovers. I think they're totally are ruining the football game, but you just need them for keeping up to the required standards.

File under: 'Never in a million years'.

Hats off to this Keith Harris feller, though. He's certainly earning his corn briefing journos about the sale of a club which is not for sale.

So come why is the club not for sale. Obviously you know everything

I assume you can back up this davek. Or do you only have one record in your collection that may need changing?

Please god, let this be true. Then we can draft in an international manager who will improve our players and performances. Also get a new stadium. And finally beat Liverpool.

We need an injection thats for sure. Todays result has depressed me into thinking its more of a necessity that ever before! At the minute, it does not seem feasible that we can compete with the top 4 unless we can find a new direction.

They're not for sale. Fact. Here's the relevant part of the Kirkby planning application from the summer:

6.10 A further point that is of relevance to any debate on the options that might be available to the Club to fund a new stadium, is the willingness and abilities of the Club’s directors to sell some or all of their interests in the Club in order to attract an investor who or which might have the ability in financial terms to fund a new stadium in its entirety or at the very least fund the shortfall that exists in the context of this proposals. As is pointed out in greater detail in the financial statement document 26), this is not an option as the current directors have no intention of selling any of their interests in the Club.

We have a press report also that demonstrates the club have not formally drawn up the necessary documentation that would back up Kenwright's claim to want to sell the club:
Wanted: a blue billionaire at Everton - Premier League, Football - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk

Is that proof enough for you? Or shall we just ignore the facts and believe in good old Bill and his latest variation on the Fortress Sports Fund scam?

"One record in my collection?" I want Everton to have a winning and attractive team. I'll keep on playing that record if you don't mind.
