Dr Who......

it feels a bit hollow and tokenistic

like I'd prefer they wrote a new show with a new titular female character instead of just lazily slapping a pair of tits on an established one and holding up a sign saying 'please clap'

This. Rather than reintroduce, say, Romana, a witty and strong female Time Lord who battled wits with Tom Baker and giving her her own show, we'll just change him out for a her. While makes more sense in the Who-Universe than other cases (Marvel comics have apparently run amok with this), just seems kinda lazy.

And a way for people to feel morally superior and look down on anyone who dares disagree as a knuckledragger or whatever.
