I have no idea who this bloke is or his credentials if i'm being honest.

But if technically we have (or will get) top youth coaches and have a bloke overseeing it all who is specialised in sports sciences and fitness, then surely that is all a positive thing? finch farm is already decent quality with all of that stuff, so a expert to oversee it all and build upon it could be a great sign.

Actually that's not to far removed from what he has done/can do. I was reading about what the equivalent Sky Cycling guy does, and part of the role is siting down with individuals, working out where their muscular weaknesses are and devising a programme accordingly . So certainly in his past he could devise a" hamstring injuries avoidance programme", his role now is beyond that, but you'd expect him to be directing our Academy coaches in techniques that would reduce all injuries generally and specific programmes for individuals who have reoccurring problems. No reason why this shouldn't be fed up to the first team as they're all at FF. I remain excited by this s appointment !

Sounds good and should allow increased availability of players to the footballing coaches and to matches, in line with the school of science we should be.

There is something that just doesn't feel right about this though I can't quite put my finger on it yet but I can just see us being fleeced by these technical nerds with no improvement on the pitch.

Finally someone who understands that Dr Vint, a former Senior Director with the United States Olympic Committee, is accepting this position purely to be in prime position to steal all our lawnmowers!

TBH mate if you're worried about seeing a lot of technical nerds in charge you might want to close your eyes for the next few decades.

Are you more of a jumpers for goalposts kinda guy? :)

Haha, I am a little bit cynical about sport science TBH but it's big business these days, plenty making a fortune from it. £35 for 3 mins in a Cryotherapy ice box at the Gym, not bad at all.

Does he know his ar$e from his elbow though, football wise ?? Time will tell I suppose. Reminds me a bit of the time Southampton brought that Rugby fella in after he won the Rugby World cup, what's his name Clive Woodward as Performance director and brought in a head of Sports Science who everyone disliked , when Redknapp was their manager, that didn't go to well at all really. Woodward later ended up as the new director of elite performance for the British Olympic association. Still knows jack about football though.

Exciting appointment. How long till the Finch Farm hostel opens up? Despite us doing pretty horribly on the pitch at present, it's good to see that the club definitely has a long-term project in place, particularly in making a La Masia style academy set up. The good Doctor Vint seems to be a high profile, experienced appointment – with the brief of developing the structures and personnel to a world class level. Not tell the kids to show more passion and give tactical instruction. Will be really good to see how this pans out.

Sorry mate , sports science is here to stay! Wales rugby team have been using cryogenic chambers for about 6 years to recover from hard training sessions and after matches. There was a lovely bit in the middle of the rugby World Cup where in my paper it said they'd put their players into cryogenic chambers within hours of an evening match before they went to bed, on the opposite page of the paper was a picture of Greig Laidlaw , Scottish rugby captain , in a dustbin filled with ice water trying to replicate the same effect. One team embraces sports science the other doesn't. Our Academy can't compete with City and Chelski on the amount of money they spend, so if the target is to have the best Academy in the UK then Europe we're going to have to be amongst the top innovators .
