Don't think, defend.

There's another and more prosaic explanation: this shower have picked up their tools after downing them when them went on strike from about February of last season.

It makes a hell of a difference when a defence especially looks arsed about getting a challenge in.

Can't disagree with much of that mate.
I think the issue is though that RM would have persevered with his methodology which doesn't include defending a cross.

....I think it's too early to say Ashley Williams has been a revelation. The apparent change in tactics and approach has been discussed in the other threads.
Disagree. The huge benefit of having Williams in the team is that he has displaced Jags as the leader of the back four. Jags has stepped up a gear in terms of his own performances because he is now playing alongside a better leader and organiser, taking the pressure off him.

..he looks a fine signing, I don't disagree but I do think we will fully judge nearer the end of the season.

We will get stearner tests than what we have already encountered. As every game passes though if we continue this streak of not losing we will see the defence defend better and this will give us the opportunity to attack with the confidence we are safe at the back.
We are looking a good outfit at present, and hopefully it will improve...
We need to be realistic though and not get ahead of ourselves, but a good solid defence will help us win points were in the past we got nothing...

And he wouldn't be a "revelation" anyway.

He played last night the way we have seen him play for Swansea every time they came here.

We knew all about him and many of us have been wanting him here for years :)

Imagine, just imagine if Koeman can get McCarthy back to his season one self? Him and Gueye in the same midfield would be awesome, James and idrisse both badgering and sweeping the ball, idrisse taking it forward while James sits back and covers the back four!

I'm not also certain how a highly rated centre half who reached the Euro semi finals as captain is a 'revelation' either.

We've also been up against forward lines including
an off-form and out of confidence Harry Kane (at that point after a terrible Euros),
Peter Crouch,
Berahino Lambert and Rondon
A 52 year old Jermaine Defoe essentially upfront on his own

Baines isn't injured anymore and not personally at war with the current boss

We've played against 4 teams, three of whom are likely to be in the bottom half and only as we've all lost confidence from the last two years are we getting giddy about beating them.

It's all just a bit over the top at this stage.

indeed, Orly.

Attached to every silver lining there is a great big gray cloud :(

To be fair, we struggled to get results against all four last season with exception to Stoke away and Sunderland at home. We've played two of the same fixtures in our four games that are an utter contrast to the same games last season - Stoke home lost 4-3. Sunderland away, which was actually not that long ago, lost 3-0. Only beat West Brom 3-2 because of Rom's brilliance and we were tactically outdone by them at home. Those forward lines last year got goals and points against us.

I think I could have picked a better term here.

The point I was making was more 'the speed in which he has made a difference has been unexpected'.

But take the point absolutely, we have hardly unearthed a gem from nowhere.

Agree mate

McCarthy shouldn't be written off, he can still offer something..
