Hmmm. If you compare him to Owen and Lukaku, then I'd agree with you. I'm going to ignore Jeffers, because he went on to do absolutely nothing in football, but I'm going to pull you up on Defoe and Rooney
Defoe's first two full seasons in the PL with West Ham ... 10 in 35 and 8 in 38. so he was decent, but not exactly prolific in scoring goals
Rooney's first two seasons with us ... 6 in 33 and 9 in 34
Based on that, if DCL gets ~ 8 goals in the PL this season, then he's following a similar path to Defoe and Rooney.
I can wait till the end of the season before revisiting this ...

For me our best player today, which may not say much but at least he was always involved and trying to make things happen. If he was on loan to a mid table Championship club we'd be calling for his return so we could see what he's like in a decent team. Instead he's trying to make things happen in a team playing like a mid table Championship club.
