2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Its not a personality contest, though i do wonder on this forum at times. But we just look better without him. We look hungrier. We've a striker now who is offering what Dom wasnt. Beto's goal last night where he opened his body up and cooly slotted. Dom just isnt doing that.
I dont want to go back to Calvert lewin now. Ive seen what even a half decent forward can do and offer.
Its fizzled out for Dom. I wish him well elsewhere.

I just think he was coached poorly for so long and went through some of our worst periods as a squad. I don't think it's rocket science why he hasn't reached his potential. Maybe Moyes would have changed that (I seriously doubt it), but I don't think we can afford to take the chance on him anymore if we can get the likes of Beto producing. We should not be offering him a mega deal that is for sure. Good luck to him. There was a player in there but I don't think it panned out for us.

As some of us said, we would be a better team without him on the pitch, because he just doesnt care. I have my thoughts about his talent but Im not even going to argue those. No matter what talent a player has, if there isnt effort behind it you are better off with someone else, almost ANYONE else. Never employ people who have quit over people who care.

I think you should check evertons top goal scorer list before you say hasnt panned out. We paid 1.5m for someone who's scored 70+ goals for us and scored some majorly important goals that kept us in the league. But yeah hasnt panned out...

Opinion on DCL has bounced around over the years, probs my depending on the manager was under tbh and how he was used.

He's never been lethal, guess that's a legacy from originally at youth level being a centre mid (pretty sure he was as a junior) but great hold up play, not gonna say great in the air as well I remember Gray and Sharpe who were great in the air - Dom's not close to either aerially.

Ultimately for what we paid he's been a good player for the club, but never was able to continue the form he showed under Carlo. Too high wage to be a back up, not good or reliable health wise to be a starter for any team with ambitions of pushing a European place, so adiós DCL - no doubt he'll end up with a last big contract someplace and wouldn't shock me to see him as a backup option at a CL side - either that or at a newly promoted side/just staying up one as their main striker. Both those roles the side paying him will get value for the wage if he stays fit.

He's not gonna be starting for any top half team (can see him maybe at west ham as a low cost option to replace Antonio though)

Obviously he's not going to a better club in England than Everton and being a regular in their starting XI. He's in a desirable position of being a free agent and will undoubtedly be able to get around the wage he's on now, but I seriously doubt he'll get any offers of 100 grand a week for three or four years, especially with his awful injury record the past two seasons.

I could see him maybe in a rotation position at Forest, which so sadly - unbelievable even - would represent a jump up from Everton given they'll almost certainly be in Europe next season. If not them maybe a move north of the border, or to Villa as backup to Watkins? Or abroad would be even better for him and his young family imo: Germany, Spain, Italy would be fantastic.

He clearly wants a change of scenery and I think it's best for him and Everton if both parties go their separate ways. No problem at all. He's been a great ambassador for Everton, no hint of any trouble ever and came to us as a two million pound youngster from Sheffield United. Wish him only the best.

Beto has proven he's a better finisher, will be on much lower wages and doesn't come with the injury record of DCL. Beto, Chermiti and another proven, hopefully more rounded striker can be our options for next season, then we can of course utilise the loan market to supplement that with a fourth.
