So me and the Mrs have got ourselves a dog.

She's 6 years old and been mistreated in the past, but is amazingly well behaved....during the day.

However, night time is where the problem lies. As soon as we go to bed (or a tiny bit after) she starts whining and eventually starts barking.
We don't want her in with us at night for obvious reasons, but literally can't get any sleep when she is going nuts downstairs. Eventually it leads to one of us going down to calm her down and usually have to kip on the sofa with her.

We got her on Wednesday and this has happened every night so far, and is why I'm writing this message at 2:22am.

Anyone got any tips? We've tried the obvious ones, but can't ignore it as we're supposed to because it's just too noisy.

Get a dog Kennel and keep it in your bedroom.. Let the pup sleep in the kennel/ in the same room..

Patience and calm-assertive energy.

Take off the connection that goes into the stereo and use to give the dog electric shocks. It will soon shut the [Poor language removed] up.

Failing that, hold it down and force sawdust into its eyes.

I'm with Chico here.

Regular thrashings and psychological 'Cat' based abuse will sort it out. Nato approves of these techniques.

Put a small clock in its bed - the rhythmic ticking will remind it of its mothers heartbeat and provide re-assurance - failing this spike its water with Vodka

Had a dog for 21 years one from 1990-2001 it died, and another one from 1999-when ever it die's,mine has never barked at night,1st one only ever craped in the house twice, latest one never,i just let the dog do what it wants at night weather its sleep on the couch, the bed,its sleeping bag thing whatever and just leave the doors open for it to walk around

why cant that dog sleep in bedroom. our dog sleeps in our bedroom. theres little bed next to ours and dog sleeps there. (actually dog sleeps under the sheets all the time) but we dont mind. she would go crazy like your dog if we would put her in other room.
i wouldnt loose my sleep because of that...
your dog might be insecure, it needs to be near you

Our two dogs sleep in with us. Sounds like she just wants to be with you to feel secure. If she was mistreated when younger, being alone might scare her, but being with you might just settle her.
