I believe that we play better football and are a better team without Cahill in the starting lineup. He acts as a target man when playing and too much focus is on finding him and that acts as a hinderance to our team. Apart from his goals he doesn't offer much else and I feel that Osman or Bilyaletdinov are better players in his position to encourage good football.

A natural response would be.... look at the goals he scores. But the problem is that when he is scoring, no-one else is, which is because of the style we play when he plays. Yes he has been an iconic figure for the club, but I genuinely think he holds us back when playing. Perhaps we should put him up front again if we need to incorporate him in the team, but in midfield it is a position wasted as he doesn't have the technical ability to make us play to the ability we are capable of.

Doesnt matter if we play better football with or without him, he scores goals, and its forgotten how much he does for the team. I think he is underrated on the ball, because he does have some great little touches. But fact is not only does he score, and puts pressure on the defence, he chases the ball, lunges into tackles and does anything to win the game. He's a passionate player and even if he wasnt scoring goals, his influence on the team and the on the fans really do help us win games. He gets the fans going.

However, i would like to see Bily in the Cahill role, as he does have more quality and better shooting and can also score and get in them positions, but he is lacking the major thing that everton is all about, passion

I can't be bothered typing out my opinion on this for the 1000th time so I'm going to just copy one of my old posts.

You've got to use your head and not your heart.

I love Cahill. Who doesn't, really? He's just an ace bloke and boss at what he does.

But just look at last season. The first half he was in the team, and yes he was scoring a lot. But we were at the bottom end of the table. He leaves us to go play for Australia -- a decision I wasn't too pleased with -- and then gets injured, so hardly plays in the second half of the season. But in that time we climbed to 7th.

We had to use newer, less rigid formations and it worked for us. We weren't so predictable and so we managed to actually win a few games. I'll say what I've said all along: Cahill should not play unless we can fit him into a formation that works for us and for him. Just like any player.

NO Close thread.

Just because you disagree with the thread then it should be closed? Who do you think you are, mate? TxBill?

*** Just joking ffs Bill don't ban me

No mate. Just.....no

You can't write off an attacking mid with a goalscoring record like his that easily in my opinion. Especially when he does an awful lot of the combative work further up the pitch than our holding mids, winning back second balls and generally scaring the bejesus out of defences, making them hurry and breaking up their rhythm.

Sweet Jesus. I wish I could actually reply to this load of crap but I can't. I don't have the time to get out my soap box and preach. You all know why this thread needs to be closed except for this Sperlz monkey.

*cough* support striker *cough*

He's effective but limited.

Wouldnt build a team around him as we have done. And the only striker partner that works well with him is the Yak

of course it does. Cahill is god.

The problem is that Moyes clearly has the same opinion.

And because of that he'll play Cahill as soon as he's even half-fit.

I should clarify, as ever, that my issue isn't with Cahill. He's a quality player and a top professional. My problem is Moyes' refusal to rotate and pick the best formation for the job.

Potatoe/potartoe :)

I'd like to see him playing alongside Beckford again, IF he can hit some form....Becks really started to settle in well towards the end of last season, when tiny couldn't seem to find any fitness or form. Reckon we've not seen the best of them yet, and Tim can win plenty of flick ons for Becks to run onto....on paper it should work better than we've seen it doing so far. Maybe

He would only do well up top with Beckford for me if we had some genuine pace and width down the flanks. Which we do not.

didn't someone on here previously post the stats of him in and out of the team and it was proven we were much better with him in?

Also hasn't he out scored all of our strikers in the last two seasons?

Ok so sometimes he drifts through a game but when he is involved he is invaluable to say the least. I think sometimes the problem is where to play him and where he would be most affective.

But do have to admit you're on to something there. I don't think any player should be an automatic pick, all depends on form and the opposition that week. What works well at the Emirates isn't necessarily going to at the Brittania
