Djokovic, or 'bonehead' as one rival called him, has joined the growing number of positive tests from participants after his Ill-conceived tournament (obeying no Coronavirus protocols) had to be abandoned.

You may have thought only an absolutely brainless pr*ck would come up with such an idea, step forward Novak Djokovic.

As one player said only a complete bonehead would put on a tournament ignoring all the protocols - with absolutely predictable results.

In response to criticism over hosting the Adria Tour event, tennis star Djokovic said in a statement on his website that the competition was "meant to unite and share a message of solidarity".
"Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions.
"We organised the tournament at the moment when the virus had weakened, believing that the conditions for hosting the Tour had been met," the statement reads.
He adds that "unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality that we are still learning to cope and live with."

Came on this thread to see if I recalled it correctly that he was an anti-vac sort. I'd like to say it was some kind of comeuppance, but I hope no one gets hurt from this insidious disease, but I still feel happy in saying, "what a plank".

Just as well as he's anti-vaccination as well so god knows what other treatments now available he may also be against.

Tbh most relatively young super fit athletes are highly likely if not almost certain to be asymptomatic

For all the press and media coverage, for the vast majority under 40, and even majorities of those under 50 or 60, this isn't a major disease.

It's those older people where the risk is so much greater and the younger people who are part of a vulnerable group, well overweight or have an underlying condition where it can be devastating, and sadly all too often, fatal.

After short-term follow-up, 16 patients (27.6%) presented symptoms with lower lymphocyte count and higher CRP, mainly including fever, cough and fatigue."

And ground-glass opacities are: According to Isabel Oliva Cortopassi, MD, chief of thoracic imaging at Yale Medicine and an associate professor of radiology and biomedical imaging, ground glass opacities (GGOs, for short) indicate abnormalities in the lungs. "Ground glass opacities [are] a pattern that can be seen when the lungs are sick," says Dr. Cortopassi. She adds that, while normal lung CT scans appear black, an abnormal chest CT with GGOs will show lighter-colored or gray patches.

It's hard to know what the long term outcome could be from it, as having those kind of changes usually is seen in more severe diseases. A few sports med people were worried about long term function being impacted- also unveiling 'sports induced asthma' which may have an impact on elite level athletes. For your joe bloggs, a full recovery is likely.

Certainly, I don't think anyone knows the long-term consequences given the newness of the virus, but manifesting those opacities is never a good thing (there seem to be plenty of studies suggesting they can be a risk-factor for many lung problems, including cancer), especially for an athlete. And especially when he could have just stayed isolated and not been such an idiot by sponsoring a tournament where he and other players have now tested positive.
