Distin & Neville - Contract Extensions

If we could buy a replacement I think we would mate, but we're Everton, we're skint. Perhaps if/when Heitinga/Fellaini/whoever goes, we can buy a new midfielder. But then we will have a weakened position somewhere else, such is our position.

I get that. I'm not saying we should get rid of him now, i just don't understand why we're going to give him another contract. His current one expires in the Summer right ? So let him leave and use his ridiculous (compared to the performances he gives) wages to sign somebody who can contribute more.

Yeah I know, it's a crap situation. Problem we have is finding someone to play his position. It'd be better signing him for 6 months extension whilst we find a replacement instead of relying on deadline day and seeing it go tits up.
More than likely, we'll sign someone and he will sit on the bench whilst Neville continues to play though.

Think it's been a bit of a tits up kind of thing. Look at how James Wallace handled himself when he was released. Walked into a struggling Tranmere team, got the captaincy and has been a big part of driving them forward. Can't think he'd be anywhere near Neville's wages but looks easily comfortable at that level. Neville does a decent job of shielding and tracking back but his legs seem out of it since the last year or so.

Please don't go Phil Neville - the way i am able to predict your play (as a rugby fan on top of it ) 2000 miles away makes my two boys think i am psycic -
you give us endless moments of laughter - even they are starting to pick up the backward passes and the little sideway flicks moments before they actually happen - you are the only player in the league who constantly gives us the dejavu feeling -
some games we even start wondering whether we are not maybe watching a replay because we know exactly what is going to happen if you take controll of the Everton midfield -
the only thing which bothers us is that you are the captain sir - we still beleive that a good leader must lead from the front and not towards the rear - you certainly are entertaining - hope to see many more seasons of free entertainment before the old age home organizes your welcome party

I have no problems with extensions to both of their contracts, I think that Distin is prone to a mistake now and again however over a season I think he is more consistent and worth an extension. Neville while not a world beater as a player is still worth an extension due to his experience and influence he brings to the team, especially the younger players. I also think he would make an excellent youth coach once his playing days come to an end and would not be surprised to see him starting to become involved behind the scenes a bit more as his playing days start to become numbered.

Wish Neville would start to convert to a coach. He'd be a good one.

Love the offer for Distin for another year. I see no problems with his play out there now and he'll be a good stopgap if we get someone else. Plus I'm with RFUS - he ups our handsome team quotient 100x. ;)
